A great time to visit the mountains. It’s cool, quiet, and peaceful with the fall air moving through the aspen trees.

With Creede Life – I just got recognized as one of their top fans! 🎉

Great falls to visit when the colors turn!

There’s something almost hypnotic about standing at the base of Rex Falls and watching the water race down that steep, rocky chute. The falls tumble and swirl through a narrow cleft, framed by bright aspens and a couple of stubborn little spruce trees that somehow found a foothold right in the middle of all that motion. Looking up, the whole hillside feels alive—water, rock, and green all stacked together in one perfect Creede moment.

What makes the scene even cooler is the geology staring right back at you. Those big, tilted slabs of bedrock aren’t just random rocks; they’re layers of volcanic material laid down millions of years ago during the wild days of the Creede Caldera. After the caldera collapsed, the floor slowly rose back up in a process called resurgence, tilting the once-flat beds at steep angles. You can see those angled layers clearly on the right side of the falls, weathered into those warm golds and grays, with the water following the natural grain of the rock as it drops.

It’s the kind of place that reminds you why we love living (and exploring) around here. A short walk in, but big payoff in terms of beauty and geological significance. Next time you’re headed toward Brown Lakes, give yourself an extra half hour—Rex Falls is waiting, and the rocks have stories to tell. Happy Monday guys! Let’s have an amazing day!

Love from the high country,

The fire ban has been lifted in Mineral County, and we feel we’ve had enough rain at BSR to allow guests to have campfires. Please use caution and put your campfires completely out before going to bed at night. Thank you and enjoy🔥
