Halloween weekend may be the best time to explore haunted locations. Westerly has plenty of history hiding in plain sight. Walk along the Pawcatuck River, pass through downtown, or spend an afternoon in Wilcox Park, and you’re walking through places that have been part of the town for centuries. But some of Westerly’s stories are a little harder to explain...

Seaside Shadows Haunted History Tours takes guests through downtown Westerly after dark, combining documented history with local folklore, legends, and stories of reported paranormal activity. Historian and author Courtney McInvale founded the tour through original historical research. McInvale is a licensed tour guide, published author, and former analyst for the FBI and Department of Homeland Security. She’s written several books on New England’s haunted history, including Haunted Mystic and Revolutionary War Ghosts of Connecticut, and has appeared as a historian on the Travel Channel’s Ghost Adventures and Portals to Hell. USA Today has named the tours to its 10Best list for three consecutive years, making Seaside Shadows one of the top-rated ghost tours in the country.
