As we get closer to Halloween night, our house isn’t trying to be scary. It’s trying to remember. 🕯️🌼

For years, one of our most cherished traditions was celebrating Día de los Mu***os at Hollywood Forever in Los Angeles.

I can still see it so vividly. Marigolds piled high, ofrendas glowing beneath the night sky, music drifting across the cemetery, and families gathered together, speaking the names of those they loved and lost.

There was laughter. There were tears. There was music, dancing, storytelling, and something extraordinarily beautiful about seeing grief and joy sitting together at the same table.

It remains one of the most moving traditions I’ve ever experienced.

This is our fifth year away from that beautiful lawn in Hollywood, and I miss it terribly. So this year, we decided to bring a little piece of that magic home to Savannah.

Not simply to decorate, but to remember.

Every marigold represents a light guiding our loved ones home. Every piece of papel picado, every glowing skull, every guitar playing along the garden path is our way of saying:

We still say your name.
We still play your song.
We haven’t forgotten you.
And there will always be a place for you here.

Día de los Mu***os celebrates something profoundly beautiful, something the film Coco helped share with the world: love doesn’t end when someone leaves us.

The people we love remain part of our lives through the stories we tell, the traditions we preserve, and the memories we carry.

Grief and joy can live together. And remembrance is one of the most beautiful expressions of love.

We’re not revealing everything just yet. For now, we’re sharing only a little flicker of candlelight, a glimpse of the flowers, and a few familiar faces along the garden path.

On Halloween night, October 31, the garden will come alive in its full glory for the trick-or-treaters. And as November 1 and 2 arrive, we’ll honour the beautiful tradition of Día de los Mu***os.

Because, in the end, this isn’t about death.

It’s about love that never dies.

And this one is for all the beautiful souls we carry with us. Forever remembered. Forever loved. 🕯️🌼🦋

This loss is deeply personal for me.

Mr. Frank Mancuso Sr. did not simply welcome me into his home—he opened his life, his world and his family to me. We shared countless meals, treasured family moments and the most extraordinary conversations. He shared everything he knew with purity, generosity and grace. He was entirely comfortable in his own skin, genuinely interested in what others had to say, and always open to hearing another point of view.

I remember one late evening at their home when we talked about Christmas in New York, theatre, movies, puzzles, trains, snow, Buffalo and the Yankees. The conversation travelled everywhere. As I drove back towards downtown Los Angeles that night, I thanked God for the Mancusos and for the blessing of having spent such beautiful time with them.

You never left Mr. Frank’s presence feeling smaller. You left standing taller, feeling prouder, believing you could take on the world. He worked extraordinarily hard throughout his life. Nothing was simply handed to him, yet he carried his accomplishments with humility and used his wisdom to encourage others.

And my dear Fay is every bit as extraordinary. If you ever have the privilege of meeting her, you will see God’s love at work. Together, Frank and Fay showed me what goodness, generosity, family and true friendship look like.

The world feels diminished today because there is one fewer truly good person among us—and this is one who should still be here.

Rest peacefully, Mr. Frank Mancuso Sr. I will forever cherish you, Fay, and every beautiful memory you shared with me. My deepest sympathies go to Mrs. Mancuso, the entire Mancuso family, and all of their friends during this difficult time.

Before I launched my first collection at JCPenney, Bob Mackie and his late partner, Ray, sat down with me and went through my sketches. Bob offered thoughtful, honest advice about what was working and where I might pull back.

I will never forget his kindness. He took time to look carefully, share his experience and help me shape that first collection. His generosity meant so much to me.

Rest in peace, Mr. Mackie. Thank you for the beauty you brought into the world and the kindness you showed me.

Participating in the Great Southeast Pollinator Census reminded me how much life is moving through the garden every single day. The bees, butterflies, flowers, soil, water, and shelter all work together in ways we often overlook.

This garden has become more than a place of beauty for me. It is a place of learning, responsibility, memory, and care. From childhood days gardening in New Jersey to this pollinator garden here in Savannah, I am grateful to keep growing, keep learning, and keep doing my small part for the earth.
