California’s coast belongs to all of us.

A proposed California bill, SB-1318, could significantly affect coastal access, visitor accommodations, and short-term rentals in communities like The Sea Ranch and other rural coastal regions.

I’ve spent time researching the bill, reviewing current housing and STR studies, and reflecting on what this could mean not only for hosts, but also for:
• Families seeking affordable coastal stays
• Local small businesses that rely on tourism
• Housekeepers, service workers, restaurants, and shops
• Visitors who may not otherwise be able to experience California’s coast

I encourage friends, guests, fellow travelers, neighbors, and anyone who cares about coastal access to become informed about SB-1318 and reach out to members of the California Senate Appropriations Committee to respectfully share your own thoughts, experiences, and perspective.

Whether you support the bill, oppose it, or are still learning, your voice matters.

A community taco night will be held Thursday at the Gualala Arts Center.

The event, organized by the Gualala Arts Culinary Guild, features a full taco spread and a no-host bar.

“The gathering offers an affordable, family-friendly night out and a chance to connect with neighbors over a festive meal,” organizers said. The taco night follows a spaghetti night that the guild described as a “smash hit.”

The guild encourages attendees to bring friends and enjoy an evening of food and connection with neighbors.

The event will take place Thursday, April 2 at 5 p.m. at the Gualala Arts Center, 46501 Old State Highway, Gualala.

🦭 Pupping Season at Tide Pool Beach⁠
The Tide Pool Beach stairs will close from March 21 to Labor Day weekend as seal pupping season is just around the corner. This early closure enables the seals to acclimate to the area where they will give birth, wean their pups, mate and molt. All are reasons that Tide Pool Beach is so important to these seals.⁠

The hungry and opportunistic gull at the newborn's side assists on clean up duty following the birth of the adorable pups. It’s common for gulls to come while seals haul out during pupping season. The nutrient-rich placenta is a prize to be fought over.⁠
