Whenever we finally take a turn staying at our cabin, it’s a work-driven trip: evaluating how we can improve it, deep cleaning, doing repairs, restocking, updating, etc. Sometimes we talk about the modern amenities it could have for all of our amazing guests—cable, a big tv, super speedy wifi—but then we remember: the very best part of this space is that it helps you unplug and slow down. Which is exactly why it’s better without any of that.
For us, it’s like stepping back into childhood. Before cellphones or internet. Being intentional. Taking a deep breath of fresh air. Talking while making eye contact. Playing board games. Holding hands by a crackling wood stove. Cooking together and actually being in the moment. Laughing. Giving your body and mind a reset. And that’s what we hope it provides for each of you!
We have some DVDs (the real classics, of course) and a small tv about the size of today’s computer monitors that plays them—and that’s exactly how we want to keep it.
If we could bottle up the 1980s and 1990s, we would. We’d give it to all of today’s kids in a heartbeat, too. A childhood filled with imagination, adventures, and mudpies instead of social media channels and reels. Because slowing down like this and being present is like medicine. A balm to your soul. And these little moments are the ones that we’ll wish we had again. This cabin provides all of that. Grateful for it—exactly as it is.
