Moving Up in the World! 🚽🎉

No more portajohn! We’ve officially opened up one side of the bathhouse for the time being. We’re still working on finding the parts we need to get the water heater up and running, but for now, we’ve got a working sink and toilet! 🚽

It has definitely been slow going, but we promise the bathhouse is going to make an appearance very soon!

We FINALLY have the drywall up, primer done and a coat of paint. Another coat of paint this weekend and then toilets 🚽 and vanity’s can be installed.

Fingers crossed!!! We should have at least one side functional! Gotta order some brackets to install the tankless water heater and then it’s all over from there!

Blue Ridge Basecamp is Hiring!

We are looking for a reliable, hardworking person to mow and weed-whack our meadow.

Requirements:

Must have your own mowing and weed-whacking equipment

Be dependable and arrive on time

Take pride in producing quality work

Be flexible with changing weather conditions and work around the weather as needed

Mowing MUST be done before each Friday of the week before guests arrive

Be able to work independently

Myth: “Rain is in the forecast, so our vacation is ruined.”

Reality: Around here, a little rain is just part of the adventure.

The Southern Smokies are part of a temperate rainforest, with some areas receiving 60–80 inches of rain each year. (Western Regional Climate Center) That lush scenery, rushing rivers, misty mountain views, and vibrant forests? We have the rain to thank for it.

Mountain weather is wonderfully unpredictable (and the Weather app often gets it wrong.) A forecast for rain often means just a quick afternoon shower, a passing mountain mist, or rain in one valley while the next is dry. It rarely means your entire day is washed out.

So don’t cancel those plans just yet. Keep your tickets to Unto These Hills, your whitewater rafting adventure, or your zipline reservation. Our outfitters, guides, and hosts know these mountains better than anyone and will let you know if conditions truly call for a rain check.

And if you’ve ever rafted the Nantahala after a fresh rain, you know there’s something magical about it. The river is alive, the mountains glow, and every bend feels like an adventure waiting to happen.

So here’s your sign: don’t let a few raindrops on the forecast keep you away. Pack a light rain jacket, embrace the mist, and come experience the magic of the Southern Smokies—rain and all. 🌿💦o
