Sierra Grande's Operations Supervisor, Stephen Mendoza, has some advice for the week ahead. With temperatures expected to reach 100°F across Sierra County next week, it’s the perfect time to plan a few adventures that help you stay cool while experiencing some of the area’s best local gems.

🌲 Escape to Hillsboro
Just a scenic 35-minute drive from Truth or Consequences, this charming historic community often enjoys slightly cooler temperatures thanks to its proximity to the Gila National Forest. Spend the day exploring local galleries, grab lunch at the famous Hillsboro Café, showcase your talents during Wednesday’s Open Mic at the Hillsboro Community Center, or attend the Saturday’s Hillsboro Farm Market.

🍦 Cool Down at Ardie's Ice Cream
For travelers with a sweet tooth, Ardie’s is a must-stop destination this week. Open Wednesday through Sunday.

🦇🍻 Bats & Brews Tour Thursday, June 25
Depart from Sierra Grande at 3:30 p.m. and enjoy an afternoon that combines local craft beer and one of nature’s most spectacular displays. The tour includes a stop at Truth or Consequences Brewing Company before heading to Armendaris, where you’ll witness thousands of bats emerging at sunset in an unforgettable evening flight.

It is with deep respect that we share the passing of Ted Turner, founder of Ted Turner Reserves. He passed peacefully at the age of 87.

Ted believed in something simple and powerful:

𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘂𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿.

Because of that belief, bison roam, rivers run clear, and wild places like Vermejo, Armendaris, Ladder, and Sierra Grande continue to thrive.

I had the privilege of working alongside Ted and witnessing his commitment to the land and to future generations. What he built was remarkable. What he restored was even more important.

To those of you who have walked our trails, spent quiet time on these landscapes, or felt something shift while being here—you’ve experienced his legacy.

We will carry it forward with the same integrity, courage, and care that he inspired in all of us.

Ted, we will miss you pal.
