Had a great morning with Bill and his grandson, Ashton. We only fished a half day due to the weather. Bill typically fishes with me a few times a year and always brings his grandson along.
We started out in one spot that I haven't fished in close to a week and never had to leave. By 9:00 a.m. we had landed nine legals and likely around 50 walleyes total. We made a move to go look for some perch but they were stuck in the mud and not interested in anything we gave them. I made another move to go find some bluegills and those we found but only ended up with five before that bike shut off due to the weather. We were sitting on a school of bluegills that was over 100 strong but as anybody who fishes bluegills knows, sometimes those really big ones are the hardest ones to catch especially when the weather is doing what it is today.
Our walleyes were caught on both minnows and large plastics. Most of the fish were sitting up in 3 to 5 ft of water early and as the morning progressed slid down the break and were out in 14 to 17 ft.
I didn't take any pictures with the guys today at the end because it was pouring rain when we came off the water and they had already changed to get out of their rain suits. I took home a limit of walleyes myself to give to my dad who can't fish anymore.
