It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Neil O’Heir, our beloved Dining Room Manager and a treasured member of The Inn at Little Washington family for more than 30 years. Neil joined The Inn in 1992, beginning his tenure as a server in the dining room before becoming Director of Dining Services and later Maître d’. His warmth, kindness, steady spirit, and deep devotion to hospitality touched generations of guests and staff alike.

To so many, Neil was more than a familiar face in our dining room — he was part of the fabric of The Inn, creating special moments and lasting memories with his grace, care, and generosity. His legacy will remain with us always.

A funeral service will be held at St. Peter Catholic Church, 12762 Lee Hwy., Washington, VA, on Thursday, May 28, 2026 at 11:00 a.m., with Fr. Beres officiating. Neil’s official obituary may be found below:

We are grateful to our dedicated team who continue to surpass guests' expectations night after night, year after year, and decade after decade.

It is morel season—that brief, almost enchanted moment when these magical mushrooms make their annual appearance at our kitchen doors.

For the past 48 years, their arrival has been one of our favorite signs of spring. Elusive, earthy, and wonderfully rare, morels have always held a special place on our spring menus—not simply because they are delicious, but because they remind us how fleeting the very best things can be.

This year, they have found their way onto all three of our spring tasting menus: alongside Colossal White Asparagus on the Here and Now Menu; with Bone Marrow Crème Brûlée and Long Island Duck Breast dishes on our Enduring Classics Menu; and in our Roasted Garlic Custard across all three menus.

Their season is short. As quickly as they make their appearance, they disappear again.We hope you will reserve your seat at our table while they are still here.

Since joining as one of the first North American members in 1987, and through Chef Patrick O’Connell’s leadership as US Delegate, we have been proud to not only be a part of, but help shape and celebrate the values of this extraordinary organization for nearly 40 years.

Last Tuesday, The Inn at Little Washington hosted an event to celebrate Tom Sietsema’s distinguished 25-year career as restaurant critic at The Washington Post.

Chef/Proprietor Patrick O’Connell was joined by three DC chefs: Fabio Trabocchi of Fiola, Kevin Tien of Moon Rabbit, and Anthony Jones of Marcus. Each of the three guest chefs created a special hors d’oeuvre for a garden party reception before dinner. Dom Pérignon and Petrossian Caviar generously provided plenty of Champagne and caviar.

Guests included Phyllis Richman, Tom’s mentor and predecessor at The Post, along with many friends and admirers. The evening concluded with the unveiling of The Inn’s new swimming pool, complete with a mermaid, and a giant “World’s Fair Cake,” a recipe inspired by Tom’s 94-year-old mother.

We were delighted to welcome writer, photographer, and storyteller Nevin Martell to The Inn recently. Known for his thoughtful coverage of food, travel, and culture, Nevin has spent more than two decades capturing the people, places, and experiences that make a destination memorable.

During his visit, he created a beautiful video highlighting a few of his favorite moments with us — and we’re so pleased to share it here.
