Five years ago today, I received a call I never thought I’d get. It changed our lives forever.

There are moments that divide your life into a before and an after. October 4th will always be that day for us. Two young lives were cut short on the way home from school.

We don’t share much of our personal journey on our business page. But today, it feels appropriate to give you a glimpse into how our tragedy shaped what we’ve created here at Sandstone.

Sandstone was never meant to be just another place to stay. It grew from our own understanding of how quickly life can change—and how deeply people need a place to step away from the noise, slow down, reconnect and simply breathe.

In many ways, we created the kind of place we needed ourselves.

I’ve been working on this song for quite some time—trying to find the right sound, the right feeling and enough soul to tell that story.

I didn’t want to create music just to create music. I wanted to create something you could feel.

Something that carries the pain of what we’ve walked through, but also the love, faith and hope that kept us moving when life felt impossibly heavy.

“The River Flows” is deeply personal. It’s about loss. It’s about holding on. It’s about learning that life continues to move—even when part of you wishes the whole world would stop.

Most of us carry things we don’t always have the words to explain. My hope is that when you listen, you hear a piece of your own story in it too. That you feel understood. That you remember you’re not alone.

This isn’t just a song.

It’s a piece of our story.
A piece of my heart.
And a glimpse into the deeper purpose behind Sandstone.

On a day that carries so much weight for our family, it feels like the right time to finally share it.

Every night, the river gives us a little something different.

Tonight it was this… layers of clouds, a little color peeking through, the water reflecting it all back, and not another sound around.

Well, this was a pretty incredible surprise…

We just discovered that Midwest Living included Sandstone Rustic Retreat in its guide to incredible Midwest glamping destinations—recognizing our mirrored domes, cabins and cottages.

The best part? The article was published while we were quietly building our boldest idea yet.

Since then, we’ve opened The Drift—a mirrored dome floating directly on the Wisconsin River. To the best of our knowledge, it’s the only floating mirrored dome of its kind in the United States, created for two people to step away from the noise, slow down and reconnect.

We’re incredibly grateful to Midwest Living for recognizing what Tanya and I have been building here in Wisconsin Dells.

🌊 The Drift has officially completed its 2nd excursion into the cove! 🌲✨

And now we’re looking for our next adventurous guests…
