Never a dull moment in Victoria Falls...
This little family of mongooses ( yes...the plural is mongooses and not mongeese...although mongeese is acceptable) kept us entertained while we were at the ATM today.
It's not unusual to see mongooses, baboons and warthogs when walking in town ( and elephants and buffalo on the roads) here. It is important to remember that these are all wild animals and should be treated as such. Keep a sensible distance, don't feed them or attempt to pat them, and ( most importantly) take a moment to watch their antics.

While all the staff embraced Africa Day celebrations, these two gorgeous ladies deserve a post of their own.
Anyone who had the pleasure of interacting with them front of house yesterday ( for check out, check in, or information) is certain to agree with us that they looked incredible in their chosen attire.
Gladys and Bernadette - thank you for making such and effort to make the day a special one.

Meet the Batonka soccer/football team. 😀⚽️⚽️

Made up from staff members from all the departments of the lodge ( players and coaching team), this team team can be found flying the Batonka flag high most Saturday or Sunday afternoons in one of our local leagues.
Lots of fun, lots of bonding, plenty of smiles....and all round great camaraderie.

We are so proud of these guys and team.

If you have stayed at Batonka, this painting will look familiar to you.
Here is the story behind it.

“ Eden “ (Leopard, Siansimba, Upper Zambezi)
Print on canvas
24 x 40 inches / 61 x 102 cm
Price : US$400

The landscape work for this painting was painted in situ at the junction of the Siansimba and Zambezi rivers. Whilst I was working on the painting a large herd of elephant came down to swim and to drink. At one stage 150 elephant lined the bank and the shallows, an incredible sight to behold.

Having often seen leopard spoor along the banks of the Upper Zambezi I later decided to include this beautiful and elusive cat.

The steep, eroded banks of the Zambezi River attract a variety of Bee Eaters who dig deep nesting burrows in the pliable earth. Little Bee Eaters are common here , hawking for insects from branches above the swirling waters of the great river.

The whole scene depicts a very real Eden

Wonderful place to stay
The Batonka staff were exceptional. Helped with follow up on tours (tardy pickup) without asking - that they had not booked.
Food was above expectations. Despite location everything was super fresh and of culinary delight. Would compete with high end restaurants. My travel buddy (vegan) was delighted with the variety and quality of the options available. Only complaint from her was there was too many options (she is not a. Accusto to multiple options.
A very safe environment - would be happy to return solo if ever in Victoria falls again and recommend this venue to anyone
Guest experience was 2nd to none.

This is what more than 3061 cubic meters of water per second ( so 3 million 61 thousand liters per second!!) looks like.
We have had a phenomenal rainy season, as have our neighbour's where the flood water push come from.
The water level is already significantly higher than it was at peak flow last year....and still a lot of rising to go. We will be here for it....will you???

You may have heard of the "getalong" shirt......we have something that might be more effective: a tandem gorge-swing 😀 One sure way to get your kids to do something together.

The gorge swing ( solo or tandem) is a firm favorite for those looking for an adrenaline rush. For some it is fun, for others it is a challenge they set themselves to overcome a fear. It takes guts to step off that platform, and most people come back up wanting to do it again ( that might just be the adrenaline talking).
