Adventure is never far away in this part of the world.
Sometimes it is when you don’t really expect it.
Clients doing a road transfer from the Kazangula border ( Botswana) to Victoria Falls .....or vice versa....might just have been lucky enough to see this lion ( and/or his brother) who had taken refuge from the heat under a shady tree on the side of the road.

It is always worth looking out the windows and paying attention when traveling on that road. What a treat.

Our temperatures are soaring.
The last couple of days have been around 42 °C ( 107°F) - so next to the pool with an ice cold drink might be just what the doctor ordered.

A reminder to make sure you stay hydrated in this weather. Lots of water and it is also wise to have some rehydrate to replace those electrolytes.
Our pharmacies in Victoria Falls stock single use sachets - very convenient for traveling.

The Zambezi River water levels fluctuates with the seasons, with peak flow generally being March, April, May ( and sometimes June) and low water around this time of the year. Each water level offers it's own magic, and day to day this wonder of the world changes - no two days are the same.

We popped down over the weekend to have a walk through the Victoria Falls National Park - and it once again proved that nature is an artist with a magical brush. Rainbows, water, rock faces, flowers, butterflies, birds and so much more.
And while you might not get absolutley drenched at this time of the year, you still get the spray of the Falls falling on you at certain spots along the way.

4 big buffalo bulls ( Dagga boys) meandering through the residential area near the lodge a short while ago.

Thanks to VFAPU for having scouts there to keep an eye on animals and humans alike.
Scenes like this make Victoria Falls special, but having organisations here on the ground making them safe is so important- as is working together with them and supporting them.

And......just as a reminder.....if you happen to see buffalo in the streets while you are here, please remember to keep your distance. They might look like cows but they can be very dangerous.

They say “Not all classrooms have four walls’’ – and this is definitely a sentiment we can get behind.
Travelling with kids, while sometimes a little challenging, opens their eyes to all sorts of new and exciting things that can’t be taught in a classroom, and will be remembered forever.
There is also the added bonus of seeing new things through a child. They just have the most wonderful way of seeing things and expressing themselves.
Batonka is a family friendly lodge – we welcome all ages, young and old. And we love to hear stories from everyone who passed through our doors.

Need to refuel between your morning and afternoon activities, or after a full day of sightseeing?
We have you covered at Batonka - you don't even have to.leave the property.

We have a light lunch menu, a snack menu, and dinner is a set menu ( changing daily). All meals are made with fresh, seasonal ingredients, and we try source as much as we can locally. Please advise if you have any special dietary requirements.
And our terrace or inside dining room are just the place to sit back, relax, and enjoy a tasty meal.

Life is always better with a full tummy.

Great experience at Batonka Guest Lodge
Cannot say enough positive things about the Batonka Guest Lodge! From start to finish, the experience was outstanding. Tendo was our greeter upon arrival and very helpful throughout our stay - kudos to Tendo! Fur that matter, all persons from the maintenance staff to the bar/kitchen staff consistently greeted and assisted us with genuine warmth and enthusiasm. The grounds are lovely, well kempt and encourage relaxation. Our room was spacious and comfortable, including the bed. The location is just far enough off the "main drag" to be peaceful but still close to downtown Victoria Falls. You can walk downtown in less than 30 minutes or have Tendo arrange for you to be transported by a trusted driver. I highly recommend the Batonka Guest Lodge!

Never a dull moment in Victoria Falls...
This little family of mongooses ( yes...the plural is mongooses and not mongeese...although mongeese is acceptable) kept us entertained while we were at the ATM today.
It's not unusual to see mongooses, baboons and warthogs when walking in town ( and elephants and buffalo on the roads) here. It is important to remember that these are all wild animals and should be treated as such. Keep a sensible distance, don't feed them or attempt to pat them, and ( most importantly) take a moment to watch their antics.
