Help protect bears in Banff National Park by preventing surprises for you and for them.

When travelling in bear country:
✔️ Make noise and travel in groups so bears know you’re there.
✔️ Keep pets on a leash and under physical control (it’s the law).
✔️ Stay on marked trails and official paths.

✔️ Respect closures and area restrictions. They’re there to protect you and give bears space to use their habitat undisturbed.
✔️ See a wildlife carcass? Leave the area immediately and report it to Banff Dispatch at 403-762-1470.

Female elk (cows) are about to or have recently given birth to their calves. They are extremely protective of these newborns. Indeed, there are more dangerous interactions between elk and humans than there are with bears. There are lots of babies being born right now in and around Canmore and Banff. Stay a good 10 bus lengths away. Carry bear spray even on popular trails and pathways. Pick up our rental bear spray from our Canmore and Banff locations.
