Thank you to all those who served and continue to serve ❤️

On Remembrance Day, we honour the service, courage and sacrifice of Canada's veterans.

We also take this time to reflect and honour all those who have fought for a more peaceful and just world, including active service members, peacekeepers, refugees, and families affected by conflict. We also acknowledge the many Indigenous people and communities who have made contributions and sacrifice in service, often without recognition.

Today and all days, we will remember those who lost their lives and show our immense gratitude by continuing the work towards a better world.

Why do Girl Guides love to camp? It's simple.

We believe that getting outdoors and connecting with nature builds valuable life skills for girls. Aside from the practical — tying knots, building a fire, learning to swim — it helps develop self-esteem, resilience and confidence.

From Today's Parent: "It comes as no surprise that kids spend less time outdoors these days, mostly as the result of increased screen time. But outdoor activities are essential for healthy development: research consistently shows that when girls take part in outdoor recreation, they reap many benefits. These include higher levels of self-esteem, self-trust, self-worth, assertiveness, self-sufficiency, independence, confidence, empowerment and body image, as well as stress relief through interaction with the natural environment and a greater sense of community."

It's more than just camping, hiking, or canoeing — it's giving girls the confidence to take on the world.

On September 30, we pause to honour the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day. This is a time to reflect on the truth of Canada’s residential school system, to remember the children who never came home, and to stand with Survivors, their families, and communities who continue to carry this painful legacy.

Girl Guides of Canada is committed to reconciliation, and use this day to ask our staff, our members and our supporters to reflect, learn and stand in solidarity.
