AUGUST 29TH - SEPTEMBER 5TH
Two-bedroom waterfront cottage on Lake Temagami - $1,200

Apparently this duck has decided he owns the place.

He's not paying rent, so we're offering his cottage to someone who will.

A super last-minute opening on Lake Temagami, in one of our two-bedroom waterfront cottages. Covered porch. Private dock. Sunset views. Quiet enough to hear the loons and enough space that you can actually forget what day it is.

Late August is about as good as it gets on Temagami.

Warm days on the water. Cool nights around the fire. Swimming, paddling, fishing, hiking, long sunsets and absolutely no requirement to accomplish anything whatsoever.

Just eight acres of wilderness, clear water, old-growth forest and a week to slow down a little.

And, apparently, some very confident local wildlife.

August 29th - September 5th. $1,200.

The duck has already claimed the best seat.

You can have the rest.

And one more thing...

We also have a four-night stay in a two-bedroom cottage, September 8th - 12th, for $900.

This is the final empty space on our 2026 calendar.

After that, we're officially done for the year. The docks get quiet, the cottages get tucked away, and the duck can finally have the place to himself.

Happy Canada Day from Lake Temagami.

Last night, Mother Nature celebrated by throwing a tantrum.

Tornado warnings, a microburst, trees down, and power outages across the area. You'd never know it looking at the lake today. Blue skies, puffy clouds, and just enough breeze to make you wonder if last night actually happened.

The power, however, is happy to remind us.

We're still running on generators. Nothing says "peaceful wilderness getaway" quite like the soothing hum of generators drowning out the loons.

A huge shout-out to our guests, who have handled the whole thing like absolute champs. No complaints. No drama. Just a lot of patience, good humour, and the understanding that sometimes the wilderness likes to remind us who's really in charge.

Thankfully everyone is safe, the lake is still beautiful, and the loons will eventually get their concert venue back.

And while we're on the subject of unexpected openings, we still have August 29 - September 5 available.

The power should be back by then.

Probably.

Only one week left!

Meanwhile at the lodge...

We spent the day planting flowers around the lodge.

The sun was out. The lake was calm. The view wasn't bad either.

After a long day of digging, planting, watering, and making everything look just a little more welcoming, we're happy to report the planters are finally done.

Unfortunately, the mosquitoes were also admiring our work.

And us.

Mostly us.

Some sunsets quietly fade away.

This one had other plans.

The evening started beautifully enough, calm water, soft light, the kind of sky that makes you linger outside a little longer than planned.

And then, just when we thought the show was over, the whole sky turned red.

Not just a little colour. One of those deep, impossible northern skies that stops conversations and makes you stand there for a minute wondering how this place still surprises you.

These are the moments people remember.

The quiet after dinner. One last drink on the dock. Watching the light change over the lake. The kind of evenings that somehow feel simple and unforgettable at the same time.

The season is slowly waking up at the lodge.

After four days back, the ice has finally loosened its grip enough for us to splash the boat and start the annual migration of supplies to the island. Groceries, tools, linens, cleaning gear, mystery bins packed weeks ago that seemed like a good idea at the time… all of it packed into one very full boat.

Spring in Temagami doesn’t exactly roll out a welcome mat. Single digit temperatures, high water, cold hands, and plenty of layers. But this in-between season has its own kind of magic. Quiet shorelines, crisp air, and a lake slowly stretching awake after a long winter.

It’s peaceful, a little messy, and beautifully real. No crowds. No rush. Just nature doing its thing on northern Ontario time.

The countdown to summer is officially on. We’ll be ready. Probably.

We’re back at the lodge… and the lake is still holding onto winter.

Not exactly the picture-perfect spring arrival, but around here, seasons don’t follow a schedule—they do whatever they want. And this year, that means a little ice still in the mix.

Waiting it out would be the sensible move. Instead, we went with an airboat and, naturally, sent it.

There’s something special about this in-between time though. Quiet mornings, crisp air, and a landscape that hasn’t quite decided what season it wants to be yet. It’s not polished, it’s not predictable—but it’s real Temagami.

Spring will show up when it’s good and ready. Until then, we’re here, getting things going and enjoying the calm before the summer buzz.
