✨MEET THE TEAM✨
Originally from the Netherlands, Petrouschka is a wilderness guide at Northern Lights Village Saariselkä.
From chasing the Northern Lights to exploring the beautiful Arctic wilderness, she helps our guests create unforgettable memories in Lapland. But what makes her work so special and what does she love most about life in Lapland? Let's hear it from Petrouschka herself!
🥹 What is your most unforgettable experience with guests?
One of my most unforgettable experiences was with that Australian family who saw snow for the very first time. Seeing both the parents and children crying with happiness, then laughing and playing together during our spontaneous snowball fight, was incredibly touching.
❄️ What is something guests might not know about your work?
Being a wilderness guide involves so much more than just taking people on beautiful excursions! Behind every trip there's preparation, checking equipment, monitoring the weather, assessing safety and adapting to the constantly changing Arctic conditions.
We also spend a lot of time learning about the environment, wildlife, local history and culture so we can share more than just beautiful views with our guests.
And sometimes the most important part of guiding is knowing when to slow down, stop talking and simply let people experience the silence and beauty around them.
💚 What is your favourite thing about Lapland?
The feeling of freedom and peace. There's something incredibly special about being surrounded by endless forests, frozen lakes and skies that seem to go on forever.
I love how nature determines the rhythm of life here. The polar night, the incredible colours of the sky, the silence after fresh snowfall, the reindeer wandering around and, of course, the northern lights.
Lapland has a way of making even the smallest moments feel extraordinary. And somehow, even though I'm not originally from here, it feels like home.
