Give each day the chance to become the most beautiful day of your life. ~ Mark Twain
Written on the walls inside the château, this quote beautifully sets the tone for the time you are given to spend within this stunning historic property.
A beacon of light and elegance on a cloudy autumn day with dramatic skies, that’s Château de Fonscolombe .
The statues welcome you as you step into the north French garden, leading your eyes to the glistening refined yellow château. The green-roofed towers stand as gatekeepers to this hidden Provençal gem, whimsical and grand in all her glory.
The castle stood resplendent beneath the rays of a subtle sun, its gilded green rooftops gleaming like scattered treasure. CARPE DIEM is engraved in one of them … seize the day, every day!
We had always dreamed of visiting this picturesque property and it took our breath away at every turn. It is what dreams are made of: a storybook, picture-perfect castle with interiors and gardens that never cease to amaze.
After a rather long stroll through the gardens and past the chapel, we took a seat at their bistronomic restaurant ´le temps suspendu´, located in the orangery. There we enjoyed a delicious, long, quiet lunch created by Marc Fontanne one of our favourite chefs here in Provence. It was a feast for both the eyes and the palate, served perfectly in their more modern orangery with views over the south garden and basins. Of course we had to try their own organic rosé to accompany our meal.
We will definitely need to return on a sunny day so we can enjoy a fine meal on their beautiful terrace.
In the afternoon, we chose to experience the Château and its hidden secrets, the chapel and the grounds through ‘les murmures de Marie’… the secrets of the Fonscolombe family, guided by old letters from their daughter Marie. It is fascinating to travel through her time and memories… and a fun way to see and feel more, to become heirs to a long-guarded secret.
The whole day was definitely worth the 1h30 from our B&B and we can only highly recommend. It is a complete mystery why we did not come here sooner…
Merci beaucoup Château de Fonscolombe - Relais & Châteaux
