Happy Bank Holiday!

We've been looking back through some of our favourite moments from this summer, and it's reminded us just how special this little corner of the Yorkshire coast is ♥️

Thank you to everyone who's chosen to spend part of their summer at Shell Cottage. We hope you've made memories to look back on for years to come.

We know summer gets all the attention, but if you ask us, September is one of the loveliest times to visit the Yorkshire coast.

The beaches become a little quieter, the cafés are a little more relaxed, the sea still sparkles on sunny days and there's often plenty of warmth left for a stroll along the sand.

It's the perfect time to slow down, enjoy the fresh air and make the most of everything the coast has to offer without the hustle and bustle of the school holidays.

We can’t wait for one of our favourite events of the autumn 🪁

The Filey Kite Festival returns in September, bringing the skies above Filey Brigg to life with colourful kites of every shape and size.

If you're thinking about an autumn weekend away, it's a wonderful event to plan your visit around.

Have you ever seen the skies over Filey filled with kites?

The Filey Kite Festival runs from Friday, 18 September to Sunday, 20 September 2026, at Filey Country Park and is free to attend.

Dogs don't really care what month it is - as long as there are beach walkies, plenty of fresh air and somewhere comfortable to curl up afterwards, they're happy!

Late summer and early autumn are actually one of our favourite times to bring a dog to the Yorkshire coast. The weather is often still lovely, the beaches begin to quieten down and there's plenty of space to explore together.

Back at Shell Cottage there's room for everyone to settle in after a day outdoors – muddy paws included.

One of our favourite parts of summer is hearing about our guests' time at Shell Cottage.
