A simple, favourite loop from Golden Key Lodge for families and couples.

Start at the cottage and stroll down the cobbled High Street to the River Avon. Follow the towpath for about two miles into open meadow. Keep an eye out for free-roaming ponies and waterbirds.

Return via a marked forest track through mixed woodland. The full loop is about 4.5 miles and takes roughly two hours at an easy pace.

Wear walking shoes, carry water and a light picnic. Finish back in Fordingbridge with tea or a pub lunch.

If you want a longer day, add a visit to Salisbury Cathedral or one of the nearby historic castles.
