Sad news.
Many of our guests who have stayed with us over the last 14 years will have met our wonderful neighbours, Derek and Pat.
With a heavy heart, we tell you that in their 70th year of marriage, Derek and Pat both passed away peacefully on Wednesday 20th May, within 3 hours of each other.
When we bought the property, they literally welcomed us with open arms. They shared photos and tales of the barns and surrounding farmland, which Derek farmed before his retirement.
When we applied for planning permission for holiday lets they championed us, writing to Maldon Council to back us up.
During the building work and renovations, they supported us with endless cups of tea, biscuits, sandwiches and advice.
Over our 14 years of trading, they welcomed guests, chatted and told them about the history of the area. And when we had chickens, Derek looked after them and shared the eggs between the guests.
A devout supporter of Poppy Day, Derek’s tales about his experiences as a child in the war were legendary and he would often show guests his impressive collection of memorabilia.
We were the luckiest people to have had you as friends and neighbours.
Rest in peace our most special friends. X
