Check out this lovely painting, by Millais. Our lodges are right where the nuns are standing πππ
This painting by Millais was posted to one of my friends on their timeline. It reminded me of why I have an affinity with it.
This painting by Millais β Sir Isumbras at the Ford β is not just a beautiful Pre-Raphaelite image.
The scene is based on Bridge of Earn. The old bridge is in the background, and the figures are fording the river roughly where the newer bridge now stands.
Even better, the βcastleβ in the distance appears to be based on the old three-storey building at Earnbank, in the village β though Millais clearly gave it a rather grand medieval makeover!
And the spot where the nuns are standing? The lodges where my studio is now sit just behind there.
So, in a strange way, this famous painting feels very close to home β part local landscape, part myth, part imagination.
