A little wildlife update from the farm...

As you’ll know, we’re lucky enough to have deer living in the field behind ours, and recently we’ve been spotting a lovely mum and baby.

They haven’t been close enough for us to get a decent photo yet, but we did manage to capture this little glimpse of them.

You can clearly see Mum, but the baby had wandered into the long grass and is doing a very good job of blending in... so you might have to zoom in and play spot the deer!

It was such a lovely sight to see, and hopefully they’ll venture a little closer at some point so we can get some better photos.

For now, though, we’ll just enjoy watching them from afar

Well, the rain finally arrived! 🌧

After well over 30 days without any proper rain, we finally woke up to a good soaking at the farm.

And you know what? It was actually rather lovely! Everything felt so fresh this morning, the grass has had a much-needed drink, and the whole farm seemed to breathe a sigh of relief.

And we've added something new for our guests to enjoy too...

We've treated ourselves to some new wooden garden furniture, giving you the perfect spot to sit, relax and take in those lovely views over the fields towards Chesterfield.

Let's just hope the rain doesn't decide to stay for the next 30 days!

We've got some bad news... and some good news!

The bad news? 😬

We're now fully booked for August and September! A huge thank you to everyone who has chosen to stay at Cedar Holme this summer.

The good news? 🎉

If you've been thinking about booking an autumn getaway, you're in luck! We still have a few dates available in October.

Autumn is one of our favourite times of year here. The trees begin to turn, the mornings become crisp, the woodland next to the cottage is full of colour, and it's the perfect excuse to come back after a day exploring the Peak District, put your feet up and enjoy a cosy evening.

If October sounds like your kind of escape, we'd recommend booking sooner rather than later before those last few dates disappear too!

Looking for a great day out during your stay?

Just around 35 minutes from Cedar Holme, you'll find the beautiful Kedleston Hall – one of Derbyshire's most impressive country houses.

Whether you're a history lover, enjoy a leisurely stroll, or simply appreciate stunning architecture, Kedleston Hall has something for everyone.

Take a tour of the magnificent mansion, wander through the beautifully landscaped parkland, keep an eye out for the resident deer, or simply enjoy a coffee and a slice of cake in the café while taking in the views.

It's a fantastic place to spend a few hours, whatever the season, and makes for a wonderful day out before returning to Cedar Holme to put your feet up after all that exploring.

Little Tilly is really starting to enjoy all the wildlife that visits the farm!

This morning, a flock of Canadian geese decided to stop off in the paddock.

Tilly, being the friendly little pony she is, immediately decided that they were obviously there to play with her! 😂

Unfortunately, it seems the geese didn’t quite appreciate her kind invitation to join in the fun…

Tilly proceeded to chase them all around the field until they eventually decided they’d had enough and flew off!

We’re not sure the geese will be rushing back for another playdate anytime soon, but Tilly certainly seemed to have a great time!

It’s safe to say there was plenty of excitement in the paddock this morning!

Now that Marco has moved to pastures new, it seems Tilly has decided she needs some new playmates...

Enter the young foxes!

The other day, she was spotted happily chasing them around the field. Don't worry, the foxes are far too quick for her to catch, and it actually looked as though they were enjoying the game just as much as she was!

If you know Tilly, you'll know she's always up for a bit of fun (or mischief!), so we're not surprised she's trying to make friends with the local wildlife.

Unfortunately, we didn't manage the capture their game on camera.

Life at Cedar Holme never fails to entertain us.

One day it's Colin the pheasant strutting around, the next it's foxes playing chase with an overgrown pony!

The wildlife updates keep coming!

Mr Fox has been spotted wandering through our field again this week, quite happily sharing the space with the horses. They barely gave him a second glance!

And before anyone asks...
Colin is still alive and well!

Our resident pheasant is still strutting around the farm as if he owns the place and seems completely unbothered by the foxes. He's clearly tougher than we gave him credit for!

As if that wasn't enough excitement, our neighbour was harvesting his field this week when a deer got a bit of a fright.

It leapt into our field, sprinted down the fence line and then somehow squeezed itself underneath the fence to make its escape.

We'll have to check there's not a Tilly-sized hole under there... we don't want our mischievous little pony getting any ideas!

Life at Cedar Holme is never boring. You never know what you're going to see when you look out of the window!

Well, that's this year's hay safely baled and tucked away in the barn!
And what a difference a year makes...

This year we've managed an incredible 453 bales!
Compared to just 60 bales last year, thanks to the drought, we're absolutely over the moon. It means the horses will have plenty of our own good-quality hay to keep them going through the winter.

One of our favourite times of the year has arrived... the field has been cut for hay!

Making our own hay means we know exactly where it has come from and how it has been looked after.

Most importantly, we can make sure it's free from ragwort, which is poisonous to horses.
It also means our horses will have a supply of good-quality forage to keep them happy and healthy throughout the colder months, when the grass isn't growing.

It's a lot of hard work, and we're always keeping one eye on the weather, but it's all worth it when we see those neatly baled fields and know the horses have the very best waiting for them.

Another sure sign that summer is in full swing at Cedar Holme!
