Just minutes from Nelson’s city centre, the Brook Waimārama Sanctuary is the South Island’s largest fully fenced eco-sanctuary, home to iconic species like the kiwi, tuatara, and kākāriki.
The Sanctuary offers self-guided exploration across 15km of walking tracks, as well as guided day and night tours, and you can reconnect with nature, and experience the mauri (life force) of Aotearoa’s unique environment.

Summer is still here, and there’s no better time to explore the breathtaking beauty of Abel Tasman. With its golden beaches, turquoise waters, and lush native bush, every step along the coastal track feels like a postcard come to life. The long, sunny days give you plenty of time to walk at your own pace, stop for a swim, or simply relax and take in the peaceful surroundings. It’s the perfect way to recharge, breathe fresh sea air, and enjoy nature at its very best.

The Nelson City Crochet Canopy is up!
Tucked away in Crisps Lane you’ll find a special piece of Whakatū – look up and you’ll see over 10 metres of crochet created by the crocheters of Nelson!
Over the last four months 10 ‘Learn to Crochet’ classes have taken place in Nelson & Tasman, over 150 people have donated items, and eight beautiful 2mx2m panels of crochet have been sewn together.
Fabulous crochet has been flooding in from the people of Whakatū, and an estimated 1500 hours have gone into making the panels – it’s been a collaborative community arts project on an epic scale!
The Crochet Canopy Project is a summer installation, remaining in Crisps Lane for 4-6 weeks, so drop in and enjoy it while you can! Crisps Lane is a public thoroughfare, so please watch out for cars!
