The story of Inns of Aurora is woven into the rich history of the Village of Aurora.

Long before these homes welcomed overnight guests, they were the residences of some of the families who helped shape this small lakeside community. Names like Morgan, Zabriskie, and Aurora’s other prominent families are deeply rooted in the village’s history—and can still be found in the names of the historic homes that make up Inns of Aurora today.

From family homes and gathering places to their lives as residences, community spaces, and eventually beautifully restored inns, each property holds a story all its own.

Today, these historic homes offer a glimpse into another era while continuing to serve as places for people to gather, celebrate, rest, and make memories of their own. The architecture and stories have been preserved, but each new guest becomes part of the next chapter. ♥️

Some things are made to last. ♥️

For more than 30 years, the Aurora Shoe Company has been crafting its signature leather shoes in a small workshop in the Finger Lakes.

The shoes are made with Horween leather and designed to be repaired and resoled rather than replaced. In fact, some customers have been wearing their Aurora shoes for more than 20 years.

It’s a story about craftsmanship, thoughtful consumption, and a little Finger Lakes company with a following that reaches around the world.

Fall takes its time in the Finger Lakes—and we think that’s part of the magic. 🍂✨

Deep glacial lakes like Cayuga Lake hold onto summer’s warmth, slowly releasing it into the surrounding air as the seasons change. That keeps our lakeside climate milder for a little longer, delaying the cooler temperatures that bring those vibrant autumn colours to life.

Before it was a lakeside retreat, Rowland House was a family home built for entertaining.

Built in 1903 for Alonzo and Belle Zabriskie, the home was known for its lively social scene, including bridge tournaments, charity sales, and dinner parties.

Today, Rowland House has been beautifully restored as a part of the Inns of Aurora, offering guests historic charm, distinctive design, and a peaceful lakeside setting.

A century of stories, with plenty more still to come. ♥️

Aurora is a birdwatcher's paradise.

Located along an important migratory corridor, the Finger Lakes region welcomes thousands of birds throughout the year.

Did you know? Birds that nest on the ground are more vulnerable to predators, but they go to great lengths to protect their young. Masters at camouflaging their nests to blend in with the environment, they use surrounding vegetation as inspiration and source material to hide in plain sight.

Along the 3.5-mile loop, informative displays bring the landscape to life, sharing insights about the diverse habitats and native wildlife that call this sanctuary home.

For more than a century, E.B. Morgan House has been a place to call home. ♥️

Built in 1858 for Edwin Barber Morgan, one of Aurora’s most prominent residents, the grand stone mansion was home to generations of the Morgan-Zabriskie family.

Every Fourth of July, the Morgans hosted a spectacular fireworks display out on the lawn for the people of Aurora—a tradition that made their home part of the fabric of village life.

Today, E.B. Morgan House continues that spirit of bringing people together. Restored in 2005, the historic lakefront home now welcomes guests with gracious porches, original modern art, cozy shared spaces, and views of Cayuga Lake.
