Watch the birth of our brand-new baby calf, born to Lo**ta today!!! 🐮❤️
New life is just the best.
And Robyn Pool, I always feel a little left out when we actually get to pull a calf. 😂
This beautiful baby is a bull calf. He will not be castrated. He will never be given hormone implants. And if nature works as intended, he will certainly never lactate.
That feels especially meaningful this week.
I’ve been reporting on research showing that up to 20% of dairy-cross steers observed at harvest were lactating. That should stop us in our tracks. What are we doing to the biology of these animals, and why have we accepted it as normal?
There is a better way. A more natural way. We can raise cattle while working with their biology instead of constantly trying to manipulate it for maximum production.
Today, though, I’m just grateful for Lo**ta, this healthy little guy, and the absolute miracle of new life on the farm. ❤️
