• Prefer a slower Sunday? Explore Beavers Bend, visit the Forest Heritage Center Museum, or plan some time along the Mountain Fork.

BEFORE YOU GO

• Weather: Warm early in the week, with rain in the Halloween weekend forecast. Bring a rain layer, take gravel cabin roads slowly, and check outdoor-event updates before heading out.
• Burn ban still in effect in McCurtain County (since Oct 13): no open burning or outdoor fire pits, even at the cabin. Check the county's order for exactly what's allowed, and violations can mean a fine up to $500. Use battery lights in jack-o-lanterns, not candles.
• Muzzleloader and archery seasons are open this week. If you hike outside the park, wear orange; no hunting inside Beavers Bend State Park, so park trails are the easy choice.
• Clocks fall back at 2:00 AM Sunday, Nov 1, so you gain an hour of sleep and sunsets get earlier after that.
• Halloween tip: Hochatown cabins sit far apart on dark, winding roads with no sidewalks, so plan on the organized trunk-or-treats and Safe N Sane instead of door-to-door trick-or-treating. Bring a flashlight, drive slowly, and watch for deer at dusk.
