Many of you may be experiencing an infestation of "Lady Bugs" in the area.

The bugs are most likely Asian Lady Beetles (Harmonia axyridis), not native "American" ladybugs. They resemble ladybugs but are invasive, bite humans, give off a nasty odor, leave pheromone trails for others to follow, and tend to swarm homes, especially in rural and forested areas like ours (Broken Bow/ Hochatown, OK). These are often released intentionally to combat pests like pine beetles.

Here are a few ways to deal with them:
✅ Homemade Vinegar and Dish Soap Spray (Kill on Contact)
This is a very effective direct-contact spray.

Ingredients:
1 cup white vinegar
1 cup water
1 tsp dish soap (like Dawn)
Add four or five drops of Citrus, Eucalyptus, Citronella, Clove or Peppermint essential oil

Instructions:
Mix all ingredients in a spray bottle.
Spray directly on beetles when you see them.
It kills them on contact and removes their scent trail that attracts others

✅ Repellant Spray:
Ingredients:
1 cup water
20 drops citrus essential oil (lemon, orange) or clove oil
1 tsp dish soap (helps oil mix)

Instructions:
Mix in spray bottle.
Spray around windows, doors, and other entry points to repel them.

✅ Vacuum and Seal Method (For Indoor Infestations)
Vacuum them up using a shop vac or regular vacuum.
After vacuuming, immediately seal the bag and dispose of it outside to prevent escape.
Clean areas with vinegar spray to remove pheromone trails.
