If you are anything like I was, you've heard about Crested Butte, Colorado but perhaps have never seen it with your own eyes. In June of 2016, we bought a condo on the mountain. Featured as this month's page in my 2026 calendar, this scene of Lost Lake was taken on my way home from Crested Butte. It’s a solid hike to get in there, but views like this make every step worth it.

An up-close look at this year's Superbloom Superstar, the green gentian 😍

These 4-6-foot-tall stalks are having their second superbloom within the past 50 years this year, with the last year being in 2019. These spectacular plants typically grow for 30-40 years but can grow as old as 80-100 years. They bloom only once in their life, growing stalks as tall as 9 feet and averaging around 600 flowers per stalk. The stalks we see today decided four years ago to bloom, when moisture conditions were perfect enough for the plant to store its energy and get ready for the big show this year. It is a must-see event!

Golden hour at 11,000 feet: where glacier lilies push through the mud beside an alpine lake still edged in snow, and the red peaks above glow like embers. This is Crested Butte before the crowds find it.
