Long before it became the iconic Aerial Lift Bridge, it carried people and vehicles across the Duluth Ship Canal in a suspended gondola. As Canal Park continued to grow, the bridge was converted into the vertical lift bridge we know today in 1929—and it's been welcoming visitors and ships ever since.

It's one of those fascinating pieces of Duluth history that makes every visit to Canal Park even more memorable.
