A huge thanks for every thru-hiker, fisherman, hunter, camper, and adventurer who came in and supported us!

Each year, we receive hundreds of resupply packages for passing thru-hikers. To help your package arrive safely and on time, here are a few insights into our resupply process and some best practices.

Most resupply packages are shipped via USPS to Lakeshore, CA. While this is the closest post office, it is still a two-hour drive from VVR on a single-lane mountain road. The post office is also only open for two hours each day. Coordinating pickups during that limited window takes careful planning, so we strongly encourage everyone to follow the shipping instructions on our website. Doing so gives your package the best chance of arriving before you do.

This year, we've also seen a significant increase in poorly packed and poorly taped boxes. Before reaching VVR, your resupply package may be transferred between multiple holding locations and transported for several hours from the Central Valley into the High Sierra. Because of the distance and handling involved, sturdy packaging is essential.

We recommend shipping your resupply in a USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate Box or a durable bucket. Be sure to reinforce all seams with strong packing tape. Recycled cardboard boxes, thin boxes, or flimsy packaging are much more likely to rip, crush, or fall apart before they ever reach VVR.

A little extra care when packing your resupply helps ensure your food and gear arrive intact and ready for you when you get here.

Come hang out for the weekend and enjoy the 3rd annual High Sierra Trout Rodeo hosted by Vermilion Valley Resort. Following the event is a raffle and live music featuring Nick Slater. There will be BBQ available for purchase from the VVR restaurant for dinner. Bring your family and friends!

As we run around opening, we feel the immense absence of our dear friend who filled every room with laughter, joy, and for the past 10 years has been a big part of VVR existing. At the same time, we have friends new and old coming thru to fulfill traditions of gathering with their longtime friends for annual trips to Edison.

A few years ago, Olivia and her family took a ferry ride to the back of the Lake. During the ride her hat flew off! Instead of leaving it stranded, Paint went out of his way to serve someone else: he made a loop to find and retrieve her hat - which seems like a small thing but not on this lake, and especially not on a ferry run. Paint’s kindness and spirit have left a lasting effect on so many, inspiring many generations to embrace community and never stop seeking adventure. His spirit has touched many friends, hikers, first timers, and those who he embraced as family. We hope to be able to carry on even a fraction of his love for community and creating a space for those who love the outdoors to gather.

Thank you, Olivia, for the awesome drawing which now hangs proudly in the general store. We hope it brings any passerby a smile and a fond memory of our dear friend.

VVR 2026 Pre-Season Update 🏔️

We're gearing up for another season and wanted to share some key info:
⁃ Opening: We're targeting Memorial Day weekend for opening the resort and accepting hiker resupply packages.
⁃ Shuttles: Trailhead shuttles to Bear Creek and Bear Ridge will run multiple times daily. Extended service to/from Fresno is available at sierramountainshuttle.com.
⁃ Ferry/boats: Until further notice, the ferry and boat rentals will not be operating, as we rework our water operations.

We have the privilege of being nominated in Best of Central California! And while we do not fit neatly into any one traditional category we are excited and honored nonetheless!

From thru-hikers to families making lifelong memories, this mountain community means so much to so many. Your vote helps keep the tradition alive.
