It's National First Responders Day!

Today, we celebrate the heroes who run toward the call when others need help. From our police officers to our firefighters and EMS professionals, these brave men and women make a difference every day, often in moments that matter most.

At the Louisville Metro Police Foundation, we are proud to support those who dedicate themselves to protecting and serving others.

To all our first responders, thank you.

We’re so grateful to partner with StoryFest Louisville! Our Chair-Elect, Danny Coyle, joined fellow nonprofit leaders for a day of learning and collaboration. We’re proud to work alongside organizations that share our passion for making our community stronger!

Ten nonprofit board members joined us today for StoryFest’s first workshop just for board members. There were lightbulb moments, new insights, and plenty of learning from each other.

We helped get clear on how to talk about their organization’s work in ways that move people to act… whether that means giving, volunteering, or helping spread the word.

An organization’s story is so much more than a timeline of what happened when. It’s helping people understand why the work matters and how they can be part of it.

It was energizing to see these board members sharing ideas, collaborating, and helping each other find more persuasive ways to communicate their impact.

This pilot grew out of something we kept hearing from previous workshop participants: “Our board needs this!” The feedback today was so positive that we’re planning another board member workshop in the first quarter of 2027.

StoryFest offers individual coaching and workshops for all types of organizations, helping them build clear, compelling messages that advance their goals.

Interested in a future workshop or bringing one to your organization? Let’s talk!

Reporting for duty!

Is there a future LMPD officer in the making? Jett certainly looked right at home surrounded by some of our officers!

Jett is already a fighter, and he is now battling a rare blood disorder. When Sgt. Mosley met him, she gave him an LMPD patch, which he held onto throughout his hospital stay.

When Officer Danielle Smith heard Jett’s story, she was touched and reached out to us so we could work together to make Jett’s day a little brighter.

We couldn’t be prouder of Sgt. Mosley and Officer Smith for the kindness and care they showed Jett. Their actions are just one example of the meaningful relationships our officers build within the community. We’re so grateful for officers who foster these connections and show our community, in both big and small ways, just how much they care.

Thank you to Police1 for sharing the story of our Wellness Center!

We are so grateful for this opportunity and to highlight the importance of supporting the health and well-being of our officers.

We invite you to read the full article, written by our very own Executive Director, Rebecca Grignon-Reker, as she shares the vision behind The Summit Wellness Center, the five pillars of wellness it was built on, and the importance of creating meaningful, accessible wellness resources for the heroes who serve our community.

The idea for center grew from a clear realization: Traditional approaches to police wellness were not enough.

We want to give you a closer look at the important events your support helps make possible through the Louisville Metro Police Foundation.

The Louisville Metro Police Department Awards Celebration is one of the ways we bring our community together to recognize and celebrate the individuals who go above and beyond in service to our city.

We are grateful for your continued support, which helps make events like this possible and ensures our officers know their service and sacrifices are valued.

Officer Ryan Alexander is fighting to recover from a massive heart attack, and he and his family need our help.

Last week, what began as a normal shift ended in a life-threatening medical emergency. Just hours after leaving work, Ryan suffered a massive heart attack and was rushed into emergency surgery. Doctors discovered that only 2% of his heart was functioning. At just 43 years old and in great shape, Ryan's life was suddenly hanging in the balance. Following a quadruple bypass, he remains hospitalized as he begins a long road to recovery. His wife, Haley, and their two young children, Preston and Paisley, are facing a reality they never imagined.

Officer Alexander has a heart for service and has been protecting our city since 2017. He serves in the 2nd Division and has always wanted to be a police officer, driven by his passion for helping others, protecting our community, and keeping dangerous substances off our streets.

Now, he needs our support. Ryan and Haley are facing mounting medical bills, and Haley is taking family medical leave to care for him during his recovery. On top of that, Ryan is unable to work overtime to help support his family as he heals.

Please join with us to walk alongside Ryan and his family on his journey to recovery. If you’re able to contribute, please do. And just as importantly, keep Ryan, Haley, Preston, and Paisley in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Thank you for your kindness.

You can be part of supporting this family by donating through this post or at the link below. If you use the link, the platform includes an optional tip that helps keep it free for the Foundation. To donate without adding a tip, change the tip amount to $0 before completing your gift.
