On behalf of the Turner family, thank you to everyone who joined us for “Beers and Banter” at the Jackson Hole History Museum. We loved sharing what makes Triangle X Ranch so special to us and why, after 100 years, it remains a living piece of Wyoming history.
Ours is the story of one family deeply connected to a remarkable place and called to share it with others across five generations. We are grateful for the opportunity to celebrate this milestone with our community and to honor the people, traditions, and landscapes that have shaped all of us on the Ranch for a century.

As we enter into this week of celebration, we would like to send out a tribute of 100 random photos for 100 years as our message of gratitude to all the workers, guests, public and private entities that have ridden along side us on this journey. We are blessed to have had and to continue to have this opportunity to share this landscape, this valley, this river, these mountains. But what has made this journey special is you the people. Your story is our story. Our legacy is a shared legacy and we are thankful to you all for being part of it. Our ask in this post is to share any memory, story, photo or tall tale of what this ranch has meant to you. We would love to hear from you on this week to memorialize this special place and all the people who have crossed its trail.

A special day for a special year.

Last Saturday, 17 members of the Turner family came together for the Best of the West Parade, with horses, pack strings, and four generations represented along the route. The effort earned Triangle X Ranch first place in the parade and marked a meaningful moment in our 100th year of ranching in Jackson Hole.

Thank you to everyone who cheered us on from the sidelines. Here’s to celebrating a century of family, horses, and Western tradition.

Their First Date — Louise Mapes & John C. Turner

In the early 1930s, my grandmother Louise Mapes arrived in Jackson Hole looking for a hunting guide.
What she found was John C. Turner — a quiet, steady cowboy helping his family build the Triangle X Ranch from the ground up.

This photo captures the beginning of a life neither of them could have imagined yet: long winters, hard work, wilderness, family, and a ranch that would become home for generations.

After they married, John and Louise took over running the ranch together — welcoming guests, raising cattle, and raising their three boys: Harold, John, and Donald.

When John passed away far too young, the boys were still teenagers. Alongside their mother, they stepped in and kept the ranch going.
Not because it was easy, but because it was family.

In time, all three sons married and raised families of their own on the ranch, continuing a legacy built on grit, love, and the wild beauty of Jackson Hole.
