The moment we’ve been waiting for! The trails at Peavey Brook Outdoor Center have been signed!

We had a fantastic time yesterday checking them out! And now, you can check out the map on TrailForks (we’ll have a printed map available soon) and get out there too!

What’s Peavey Brook Outdoor Center you ask?
It’s located at 865 Shin Pond Road. The road sign will be installed later this week!

🚲 There are 5 miles of purpose built mountain bike trails that are honestly some of the most fun I’ve had in a while!

🥾 Not into mountain biking? Take a hike! There’s an amazing vista about 1.5 miles in that shows off a great view of Katahdin! It’s buggy at the moment, I won’t lie.

⛳️ The property by the road has a disc golf course for all to enjoy! Bring your own discs and have a great evening of family fun!

🚽 There’s a public restroom that stays open for public use on the back side of the building!

This is a great asset to our community! Don’t have a bike? Don’t worry! Get a library card from Veterans' Memorial Library and coordinate with us at Mt Chase Lodge or Katahdin Gear Library and we can get you a lender bike!

Once upon a time, 7 summers ago, I was gifted this lilac bush. I was pregnant with Annie the year I planted it!

Every summer since, has brought a bit of disappointment when I never saw a flower.

Today, to my utmost surprise, I found this beautiful little flower on the tippy top and I screamed with joy! Let this be your reminder that great things take time! 🥰

A reminder to all of our guests and community: Our driveway is 1/4 mile up the hill past Shin Pond Village. Our winter driveway is on Shin Pond Village property and goes through their campground. In respect to their campers we have blocked off the yellow marked section of their campground road to foot and bicycle traffic only. We are working with Google Maps to have their directions send drivers to our upper driveway from May 15th to November 15th.

To access Mt Chase Lodge by ATV please follow the ATV trail up to our upper driveway.

We are so excited to share that Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument has posted their summer hours for Tekakapimək Contact Station, beginning Friday, May 22nd! You can visit this summer:

Sunday and Monday: 10:00 AM–4:00 PM
Tuesday and Wednesday: Closed
Thursday-Saturday: 10:00 AM–4:00 PM

The contact station is generally open from the Friday of Memorial Day weekend through Indigenous People's Day. However, keep an eye on the park service website as these dates are subject to change. More info here: https://www.nps.gov/kaww/planyourvisit/visitorcenters.htm

We had the best time yesterday at our Muddy KAT trail run!
People came, got muddy, had fun and cheered on our runners!!

Thanks to all who ran, watched and supported! The next run will be July 11th, the Speedy KAT in Millinocket!
