Gas prices are up, confidence is down, and travelers are still booking getaways. They’re just getting pickier about where the money goes.

Our October Hosting & Travel Index lands at 60.7: partly cloudy. That’s down 1.3 points from September, but up 9.8 from last October.

Fall foliage markets are shining: Bar Harbor, ME (84.0), Asheville, NC (82.5), and Cape Cod, MA (82.0). Detroit, Cleveland, and Miami are riding out the storm.

Mid-term rental bookings, stays of 28 nights or longer, grew 136% between 2019 and 2025. Traditional short-term rentals grew 52% in that same stretch.

Here's a stat worth sitting with: stays of 28+ days grew 138% between 2019 and 2025, and Furnished Finder's booking inquiries for them are up 117% YoY.

Corporate travelers, digital nomads, healthcare pros on assignment, and relocating families all want something between a hotel and a lease, and a lot of STR operators aren't set up to capture them yet.
