The three houses on Kilauea Volcano are all neighbors on a small lane running through the residential historic district of Volcano Village, just outside of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. I get regular visits from the neighborhood pheasants who come around to request bird seed. They present themselves in front of the French door where I can see them through the glass panes.

"The lady in red 🎶
Is dancing with me, cheek to cheek
There's nobody here, it's just you and me
It's where I want to be
But I hardly know this beauty by my side
I'll never forget the way you look [today]"

The volcano may be erupting, but sometimes my eyes are on the Ohia and the lovely Lehua -- putting on their own show, dancing in the wind!

I went roaming around the Mauna Ulu lava flows in Hawaii Volcanoes National park yesterday, with the intent of hunting lava formations, but I was quickly distracted by all the life on the lava... especially the Ohia trees in glorious bloom this time of year!

It's come to my attention that this is World Bicycle Day, June 3, as established by the United Nations General Assembly! Since Todd is such a bicycle nut, I thought I'd share these two photos of him at the top of the Big Island of Hawaii's tallest peaks -- the top one after he summited Mauna Kea on his most recent 66th birthday, and the bottom photo of him as a young pup (notice his long blond hair) in Mauna Loa's North Pit -- chronicling his lifelong passion of cycling!!
Happy World Bicycle Day! 🚴 Ride on!!

The pressure is rising again beneath Kilauea Volcano's summit caldera, indicating a likely 49th episode within the next two weeks, here in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Episode 48 concluded after 9 hours of steady fountaining by the North Vent on 1 June 2026, beginning in the pre-dawn darkness and lasting until early afternoon, with a maximum fountain height of 650 ft. Here are a few more of my shots, documenting how long I stood there watching 😆, and I was happy to find a little twister among the image files!

Walking down Devastation Trail toward Kilauea's Episode 48 eruption at dawn, with the full moon shining through the misty rain, and the sky red from the glow of the lava... all by myself 😲

Kilauea's eruption on 1 June 2026 -- the 48th episode of fountaining since this series started in Dec 2024! The North Vent burst out a 650 foot magma geyser and sustained it for 9 hours... in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park 🌋

There are many volcanoes erupting worldwide, but are any as fair as Hawaii's Kilauea in its beautiful tropical environment -- surrounded in rainbows, blossoming trees, giant ferns, and stunning overlooks? These are images from yesterday's Episode 48 that began at dawn and ended in the early afternoon -- on the first day of June 2026 in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
