Welcome to a hip and laid-back establishment which deserves its reputation for style, comfort and appeal. Hippo has twenty spacious standard rooms and five designer executive suites (double volume lofts with bedroom / bathroom on a mezzanine level).

The rooms are en-suite, air-conditioned and come equipped with king size beds covered in fine cotton linen (two single beds also an option should you wish to share a room but not the bed!). The stainless steel kitchenettes (equipped with microwave and filter-coffee plunger), come in very handy for that late-night snack or early-morning coffee. Look out for it behind the cherry-wood sliding doors. Being a four-star graded hotel, there is of course no need to assure you of all the standard items one can expect (from electronic safe to hairdryer, to the hip-branded umbrellas) - but definitely the complimentary high speed internet access is worth a mention! Yes, all the rooms are equipped with both ADSL and wireless internet access, but also featuring the option of iPod, CD and DVD facilities. All of this will keep you connected at no extra charge.

The ride is a gentle one, the rotating state-of-the-art cable car taking visitors from the lower station to the top in around 5 minutes. It operates seven days a week and trips occur within 10 to 15 minutes of each other. The time of the day’s last excursion varies throughout the year. On the top of the mountain is a self service buffet cafe while you can always pack a picnic and enjoy what still is part of a national park.You will be 3,500ft above the city and here, in this unique location, you will find rock hyrax, lizards, butterflies and the odd porcupine. There is also a wide array of birdlife from eagles to sunbirds flying above great patches of fynbos, the Cape’s indigenous flora. "

The Robben Island Prison museum is a site of major – if horrific – historical importance. Just shy of 7km from the Cape Town coast, visitors are welcome on pre-booked tours. A sandy stretch of shoreline on the Cape Peninsula with rocky outcrops and wild waves. The main draw is the colony of wild African penguins. Didn’t you hear? There are penguins. They waddle, they swim, they squawk at each other, they smell a bit weird. And they’re here in their hundreds.
This is an hours trip by car, but worth it!
