There are some hotels you never forget… and for me, Kensington Place in Cape Town has always been one of them.
We first stayed here 17 years ago at the start of our honeymoon, and it has remained one of my favourite boutique hotels ever since. So when we returned to Cape Town as a family, there was never really anywhere else I wanted to stay.
I’m so pleased to say it was every bit as special as I remembered.
The hotel has recently been beautifully refurbished, blending stylish contemporary interiors with a warm, welcoming feel. Wake up on one side to the magnificent views of Table Mountain, or look across the city from the other – the setting really is incredible.
But what makes Kensington Place truly unforgettable is the people.
From the moment we arrived with a welcome drink in hand, every member of the team made us feel completely at home. Gillian is an absolute diamond, but every single member of staff went above and beyond to make our stay exceptional.
They arranged our airport transfers, recommended some fantastic restaurants, shared the insider tip to book Fast Track tickets for Table Mountain (which saved us so much time!), and even organised a private guide for our unforgettable Cape Point tour… but that’s a story for another post.
Then, after long days exploring Cape Town, we’d come back to find hot water bottles tucked into our beds – such a simple touch, but one that perfectly sums up the thought and care that goes into every guest’s stay.
As a travel advisor, I only recommend places I genuinely believe in, and Kensington Place is one I’ll continue recommending time and time again. It’s one of those rare hotels that doesn’t just give you somewhere to sleep – it gives you an experience you’ll remember long after you’ve returned home.
If Cape Town is on your wish list, I’d love to help you plan it. It’s a city that has completely captured my heart… and Kensington Place played a big part in that.
