"Peaceful farm stay near Harties. Spacious unit with beautiful views, in a quiet and peaceful setting. We even saw hot air balloons early in the morning, from the veranda. Well equipped for self-catering. Clean and tidy, with good service. The wildlife on the farm and in the surrounding area was a pleasant surprise. The restaurant offers a good breakfast buffet and there is a small shop at reception with basic food and snacks for emergencies; even wine and beer."

Remhoogte is full of interesting plants, birdlife, and hidden natural beauty waiting to be discovered

This is the Healing Leaf Tree — Solanum giganteum — also known as the giant bitter-apple. This indigenous shrub or small tree is found in the eastern and northern regions of South Africa and is recognised by the velvety white undersides of its leaves and vibrant clusters of red and green berries.

The berries attract a constant flutter of birdlife, bringing movement and life to the surrounding bushveld trails.

Historically, the woolly underside of the leaf was used as a natural dressing for open sores, while the smooth upper side was believed to help promote healing — giving the tree its well-known name.

The Johannesburg Hiking Club joined us at Remhoogte Mountain Lodge this weekend and took on our most challenging Hiking Trail in the beautiful Magaliesberg.

Congratulations to everyone who made it to the lookout point — the Mountain Views are always worth every step.
