A new National Park in the Goyder Region

The state government has announced a new national park located near Burra in South Australia’s mid-north.

Named Jaki Ina - Worlds End Gorge National Park, the area is culturally significant to the Ngadjuri people.

It comes as other national parks are expanded with an additional 26,000ha at Nilpena Ediacara National Park on the western fringes of the Flinders Ranges.

Horsnell Gully Conservation Park in the Adelaide foothills has increased up almost 70% to 93 hectares thanks to the donation of Stonyfell Quarry land.

There has also been a recent 18sq km expansion of the Seal Bay Sanctuary Zone off Kangaroo Island to help protect endangered Australian sea lions.

Overnight, a wheelie bin was taken from St Mary’s Church and rubbish dumped over the fence at Burra Motor Inn.

Our security system has recorded the incident. Footage will be handed to police.

If those responsible would like the opportunity to deal with this directly, contact us immediately. If not, police involvement will continue.

A little history about the Burra Burra

Did you know, the old Burra copper mine:
⛏️ discovered copper near Burra Burra creek in June 1845
⛏️ before the end of the 1st year (1845) the South Australian Mining Association established it being a ‘Monster Mine’
⛏️ nearly 80,000 tonnes of rich ore unearthed & produced about 50,000 tonnes of copper metal
⛏️ by 1860 Burra was recognised as the 2nd LARGEST producer of copper in the world!

An awesome opportunity to have a lap,in a rally car

RIDE DAY @ THE MONSTER MINE
The AGL Rally SA- Rally of the Heartlands is just under two months away but you have an opportunity to have a hot lap in a rally car on Thursday 12th of May!

Rally SA is partnering with the Burra Community School to deliver this important fundraising event. A fully set up “special Stage” at the Burra Monster Mine, deploying four top notch cars and drivers, a full Medical/ Fire Intervention Vehicle (MIV), (and with all appropriate permissions and MotorSport Australia insurance) will see winning raffle ticket holders taken around the 2.4 km stage at pace, with safety front of mind. It will be a rally experience that money simply can’t buy!

All funds raised via a raffle for “Hot” rides on the Monster Mine Stage will go entirely to the school to help send students on a Civic Education trip to Canberra. The School will also be cooking a fund raising BBQ lunch on the day at the mine for spectators too!

Right next door to Burra Motor Inn, Burra Skate Park, proudly brought to you by Goyder YAC and Regional Council of Goyder, opened 30th May, 2021. The skate park, dirt pump track and nature play space is popular amongst locals and visitors alike.
