One of the most celebrated days in the village— Alma Fleet Launch: it matters here as it connects what’s important to New Brunswickers: the people who harvest its seafood, the communities that depend on fishing, and the visitors who help sustain our coastal economy.

Our Fleet Launch celebrations highlight our local fishing families who are at the heart of the industry’s attractions including the tide phenomenon, the Bay of Fundy’s unique and endlessly challenging tide schedule, the food, scenery and our Maritime lifestyle.

Join the send off today at 12:45 at the Alma Village wharf. The beautiful new (anonymously funded) timber-frame Alma Pavillion is the perfect gathering place!

The Gardens at Cleveland Place are still producing! Veggies are pay what you can, the Bookshop and Artisan Shops are open for the last scheduled weekend of the season— now or by appointment.

It’s Fleet Week! This weekend begins the Alma Fleet Launch and surrounding activities. Alma’s fishing families are busy preparing at the village wharf for the October 14th high tide. Alma’s Fleet Launch is near AND dear to us at Cleveland Place on Main Street— Come celebrate this important annual recognition— our weekend hours 10-5… ish!

86 garlic bedded with hope. Hope for an abundant 2027 garden, a manageable 2026 winter season, and world peace. That may be pinning a lot on a few humble cloves, but without hope, then what?

Me mum was a scratch cook. AND she was … frugal!

I think of her often when I’m in the kitchen at Cleveland Place.

She had few gadgets.

I have the complete Paderno (thanks Wallace) and Williams Sonoma line of kitchenware (not NECESSARILY bragging, we used to live too near the Williams-Sonoma store outlet, so I had years to accumulate affordably).

I think she’d have been pleased with today’s efforts. I used my 35 year-old 10-cent thrift store vegetable peeler, and lettuce grown from 33-cent packets of lettuce seed from the DollarStore.

Today was a good day.
