After an absolutely amazing summer and year at Side Tracked In Muskoka, we’re already looking ahead to another incredible season of welcoming guests to our little piece of railway history here in Muskoka.

We are now accepting reservations from January 1 through September 10, 2027.
Summer dates can fill quickly, so getting an early start means a better chance of securing the dates that work best for you.

🔥 Fire Ban Lifted – Fire Danger Rating Remains HIGH 🔥

Good news! The fire ban has been lifted, and campfires are once again permitted at Side Tracked in Muskoka.

However, the Muskoka Association of Fire Chiefs has set the Fire Danger Rating to HIGH. This means everyone must take extra care when enjoying an evening fire.

Please remember: 🔥 Campfires are only permitted between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. 💧 A bucket of water and a shovel must be readily available at all times. 👀 Never leave your fire unattended. 🪵 Burn only clean, dry firewood. 🚫 No daytime burning.

The safety of our guests, neighbours, and the beautiful Muskoka landscape is our top priority. We appreciate everyone's cooperation in helping prevent wildfires while still enjoying one of Muskoka's favourite traditions.

🚨 IMPORTANT FIRE BAN NOTICE 🚨

The safety of our guests, neighbours, and the beautiful Muskoka landscape is always our highest priority.

The Muskoka Association of Fire Chiefs has implemented a fire ban across the entire Muskoka region, effective immediately, due to current local conditions.

As a result, campfires at Side Tracked in Muskoka are not permitted until further notice. This means our outdoor fire pit cannot be used until the Muskoka Association of Fire Chiefs lifts the ban.

We know relaxing around a campfire is a highlight of many stays, and we're truly sorry for the disappointment this may cause. These restrictions are in place to help protect our community, our forests, and the Muskoka we all enjoy.

We sincerely appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we all do our part to keep everyone safe. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and will update our guests as soon as the fire ban has been lifted.

We're incredibly proud to support the restoration of the iconic RMS Segwun, the oldest operating steamship in North America, with a $500 donation from Side Tracked in Muskoka.

Preserving history is at the heart of everything we do. Whether it's our Ontario Northland Railway caboose or the oldest operating steamship in North America, these pieces of our past deserve to be experienced and appreciated for generations to come.

We also believe in giving back to the community that has supported us from day one. Supporting local organizations and helping preserve Muskoka's rich heritage is something we're proud to be a part of.

Thank you to the Muskoka Steamships team for all the work you're doing to bring the Segwun back to the waters of Muskoka. We're honoured to play a small part in helping preserve this incredible piece of Canadian history.

Wow... what an incredible summer!

As we look ahead, we're feeling incredibly grateful for the amazing support we've received. To every guest who has stayed with us, shared photos, left thoughtful reviews, and made memories aboard our little caboose—thank you. Your support has meant more than you know.

Because of all of you, we now have just ONE summer night remaining before the season is completely booked!

If you've been thinking about experiencing a stay aboard our restored Ontario Northland caboose, now is your chance. Once this final date is gone, summer 2026 will officially be sold out.

If you happen to miss out, don't lose hope! Plans can change, and the occasional cancellation does happen. Keep an eye on our website and social media for any last-minute availability.

The Gravenhurst Car Show is Tomorrow!

One of Muskoka's favourite summer traditions returns to Gull Lake Rotary Park in Gravenhurst tomorrow, bringing together an incredible collection of classic cars, great people, and plenty of community spirit.

We're proud to be supporting the event by donating a One-Night Stay for Two at Side Tracked in Muskoka as one of the door prizes!

The lucky winner will enjoy a unique getaway aboard our restored Ontario Northland caboose, nestled in the heart of Muskoka.

A big thank you to the Gravenhurst Car Show organizers and all of the sponsors and prize donors who help make this event possible year after year.

🚨 BIG NEWS FROM SIDE TRACKED IN MUSKOKA 🚨

We’re excited to share that Side Tracked in Muskoka has officially acquired Ontario Northland GP9 #1604.

Over the coming months, 1604 will be carefully positioned and coupled with Caboose #122 as part of a unique on-site rail display — creating an even more immersive railway experience for our guests.

Looking ahead, plans are already in motion to transform the locomotive cab into an interactive simulator, allowing guests to step into the engineer’s seat and experience what it’s like to run a classic Ontario Northland locomotive.

This addition continues our goal of creating a one-of-a-kind, railway-themed stay right here in Muskoka.

Stay tuned… the next chapter is just getting underway.

🚂 All Aboard!

I’m incredibly humbled and honored to share that Side Tracked in Muskoka has been featured by Brent Cooper and the team at Metroland Media.
What started as a dream in 2020, a retired Ontario Northland Railway caboose with a second chance at life, officially welcomed its first guests in August 2023. Since then, it’s been amazing to watch families, railfans, couples, and adventurers step aboard and create memories of their own.

This project has always been about more than just a unique place to stay. It’s about preserving a piece of railway history, contributing to our Gravenhurst small business community, and giving guests an experience they simply can’t find anywhere else.

With the Northlander’s return on the horizon, it feels like the perfect time to celebrate how rail history continues to shape Muskoka’s future.
A huge thank you to Brent for telling the story so thoughtfully — and to every single guest who has supported this journey. You’re the reason the signal stays green. 💛💙

Side Tracked in Muskoka wants to wish you and yours a very Happy New years and all the best in 2026!

As the year rolls into the station, we’re taking a moment to look back on an unforgettable 2025 at Side Tracked in Muskoka.

In 2025, we were proud to welcome over 300 guests of all ages, traveling from across Canada, the United States, and four European countries, each coming to experience Muskoka in all its splendor, from pristine lakes and forests to small town charm and unforgettable seasonal beauty. From snowy winter nights with the marker lights glowing, to summer mornings with coffee in the cupola, every season brought its own kind of magic.

Throughout the year, our little caboose on the rails hosted first-time train lovers, lifelong railfans, couples celebrating milestones, families making memories, and travelers simply looking to slow down and disconnect.

What 2025 Brought Us:

Over 300 incredible guests from around the world

Consistently strong reviews built on great communication, care, and respect for the space.

Repeat visitors who returned “down the line” for another stay.

Charity donations and fundraising stays supporting our local Muskoka/Simcoe community.

What makes Side Tracked in Muskoka special isn’t just the caboose, it’s the people who stay here. The handwritten notes, the stories shared, and the care shown for a truly one-of-a-kind place are what fuel us.

As we head into 2026, we’re excited to continue refining the experience, welcoming new faces, and staying true to what this place was built to be: a cozy, railway themed escape where time slows down and lasting memories are made.
