The weather is changing and the harvest season continues! We have updated our local Seed Rack in the Country Grocer flower department. With climate change in full force now, our growing conditions have changed. Our fall and spring seeding schedules are much longer. We have been testing the so called boundaries with great success! You will find many new additions for direct sown fall varieties including vegetables, herbs and flowers. It is not too late for many of your favourites!

One of our greatest perennial varieties ! We first received this seed from England 25 years ago. Now has become Endangered. Sorry we can't mail to our European friends. A beautiful crop of seeds this season, so we can offer larger seed packets for 2027. With climate change in full swing, I expect the survival of this living treasure in more locations than ever! In colder locations, start in late winter indoors.

We are now shipping Egyptian Walking Onions. The perfect time for planting across Canada is September and October . In our location, into November. Once your bed is established, try harvesting the small bulbs after they send up their seed bulbils. They are shaped like a small shallot and add a delicious taste to your favourite stir fry !

It was a mad dash, to harvest the Egyptian Walking Onion bulbils this week. Following the trend of 1 month early, we will be ready to offer the fresh crop for sale in about 2 weeks time. Once they were safely under cover and ready to be dried , we had thunder and a down pouring of rain. Very uncommon in our part of the world and greatly appreciated by our dry gardens . We also had a chance to stir fry the small onions that are not as famous as the greens. Resembling a very small Shallot, they are so strong , lending a delicious flavour . One final note, when you start to get your own bulbils, those little minis make amazing pickles . Not bad for our oldest living vegetable on the planet !

Seed harvest is in full swing. We aren't telling our plants they are acting out. So, this is a direct result of climate change. Well over 1 month early! Keep an eye on our site.

Something is happening right now at the federal level that every herbalist in Canada — and everyone who relies on herbal medicine — needs to know about.

Health Canada's Natural and Non-prescription Health Products Directorate (NNHPD) has released two proposed policy documents: one on Natural Health Product Compounding, and one on Raw Materials. These policies will define what herbal practitioners are legally permitted to do in their dispensaries — including how we prepare, blend, and dispense remedies for our clients.

The Alberta Herbalists Association (AHA), alongside the Canadian Council of Herbalist Associations (CCHA), has reviewed these proposed policies carefully. We have serious concerns.

Over the next few days, we're going to break down exactly what's being proposed, why it matters, and what you can do before the public comment deadline of July 12, 2026.
