Reno update 🔨

The old barn is in its final week of coming down (swipe to the end). It’s been a tricky job but the team have been grafting to get it done before the winter weather sets in. Groundworks kick off next week, then the new steel frame goes up at the start of November.

Before any demo started, the wildlife came first. We worked with specialists to carefully take down and store the house martin and sparrow nests, mapping out their exact spots so they can go straight back up in time for spring. The swift and bat boxes are all cleaned and ready for the new roof too - hoping they’ll be happy with their fancy new home.

Inside the barn space, lighting is locked in and we’ve spec’d a proper sound system for future events. We’re also working on a hire package for private events, so stay tuned…

Over in the facilities, refurbs are well underway. Shower layouts and tile choices are sorted, and we’re adding in some proper comforts for next season: underfloor heating, beautiful units, hair straighteners and dryers, a brighter reception space, and a brand new family bathroom.

Things are moving fast. We’ll share some more once the steel frame starts going up.

Camp by the sea in 2027 🏕️

You’ve always been lovely about how spotless we keep things, but plenty of campers have subtly (and not so subtly) hinted that the old facilities had served their time. We couldn’t agree more. So this winter, we’re doing a proper reset.

We’re upgrading the old setup with beautiful timber and local stone designed to blend into the landscape. Look forward to spacious showers with sky views, great water pressure and temperature control, an inviting reception, and a weatherproof barn ready for movement, feasts, and rainy days.

A few creature comforts to enhance your stay (there’s a few more, but we’ll reveal as we go), keeping all the natural magic of camping intact.

As another season at Cherry Tree comes to a close, I want to say a heartfelt thank you!

To everyone who stayed with us this year, whether for the first time or a returning, thank you for choosing us. That extends beyond our lovely campers; locals, neighbours, regulars, and Croyde visitors who popped by. Your custom means more than you know, and it’s a privilege to welcome you all. Your kind words, feedback and the way you care for the site and one another make Cherry Tree Farm what it is.

This summer’s weather brought its share of stresses. The ground, the wildlife and sometimes the team were all longing for a break from the sun. But it also gave us long, warm evenings where the site was a buzz with memories being made. Walking round the site in the evening, hearing the chatter around the tents and the children running and playing, is something I will reminisce about all winter.

I also want to thank my hardworking team. They’ve put in long hours to keep the site spotless and welcoming. Their dedication is a big part of why so many of you feel at home here, I am so grateful. It certainly takes a village, and ours is a special one.

Their spirit also led to some creative solutions. Britt made bags from materials from waste left behind by campers. All of our food, coffee and compostable waste was sorted and managed in our own composter, so none of it entered mainstream systems - reducing our impact and nourishing 19 acres of campsite with homemade compost.

We had a very successful first season for harpers. The team served up incredible coffee all summer long, and I’m so proud of what it became and can’t wait to turn the machine back on asap!

You came for yoga (huge thank you to our amazing teachers), sauna and feasted in our barn. We welcomed some talented chefs, whose ethos matched our own. They brought with them, knowledge and new experiences whilst also shining a light on producers, growers and famers in our local area.

Can’t wait to share what 2027 has in store - plenty of site improvements that will make your stays even better!

Thank you again for being part of our story. We look forward to seeing you back on the farm.

Our final feast of the season // 11 September with Fade Projects

Such a special evening. The sangria was flowing, the seafood paella was delicious and the desserts were so good, and disappeared so fast, we didn’t even get a picture.

A huge thanks to Eddy, Annie and Rachele for rounding out the season so beautifully 💛

Final few days of the 2026 season 🏕️

Book in for one more sauna session and grab your last coffee from harpers this week. Our last day open is Sunday 20th September - then the work begins!

The response to our post about camping waste was incredible. We’re working on plans to tackle the issue for next season, but Britt was way ahead of us and had already started working on something special.

“After spending a year living out of my tent on a long-distance cycling trip, I knew how tough and durable outdoor fabric really is. Returning home, I couldn’t stand the thought of it going to landfill. When I joined Cherry Tree and saw so many left-behind tents that were perfectly usable apart from minor damage like a broken pole, I wanted to find a way to preserve that material and give it a second life.”

(Brilliant) Britt has been collecting, washing, and hand-cutting those salvaged tents to turn them into practical, lightweight pouches.

Each one is handmade, saving useful material from landfill and giving retired gear a proper second life. Because of how they’re built, every single pouch is one of a kind, incorporating original guy ropes, zips, and webbing loops alongside our embroidered hare logo.

They’re tough, weather-resistant, 9x7” and ideal for keeping your toiletries, surf kit, sauna bits, or camping essentials organised.

20% of every sale goes directly to Plastic Free North Devon and Surfers Against Sewage to help look after our local coastlines.

The first batch drops tomorrow at 9am at £25 each.

It’s a very limited run since so much time goes into making each one by hand, so we’re releasing a small number first to get an idea of demand - comment ‘TENT’ if you want one so we can get an idea.

Set an alarm for 9am tomorrow if you’d like to pick one up - we can also deliver UK wide. ⛺️

We camp outdoors to feel human again. To swap schedules and screens for sea air and open space.

Sadly, throwaway culture has somehow crept up on camping, an activity that’s all about appreciating nature.

After a season where our team has spent hours clearing up tents used for one weekend, BBQs, blow up mattresses, tennis rackets, new bodyboards and wetsuits, extension leads, chairs and more, we wanted to shine a light on the waste situation, as we need to fix it.

A single tent sits in UK landfill for over 500 years. 500. 🤯

We know how it happens. Items are bought on impulse, you bring too much, and chuck unwanted stuff into the bins on check-out thinking it magically disappears.

But most camping gear is petroleum-based and it sits in the earth for centuries doing harm.

Cherry Tree is built around protecting this coastal spot and we know our campers love it too. We’re working towards minimising our footprint wherever possible, composting all food scraps to nourish the soil, and actively wilding our fields. But we need you to work with us.

Considerate camping looks like:
1. Investing in quality gear that lasts - or if you know you’re only camping once, borrow a friend’s tent. A £20 tent is likely to fail you, especially in UK weather.
2. Resisting the urge to buy more than you need. Pack lighter and try living simply for a few days. It might make you rethink how much stuff we actually need.
3. Leaving no trace. Everything you bring to the site goes home with you - also if something breaks, try fixing it before giving up on it.

We want to help get rid of this issue too. So next year we’re going to have a re-use station. Drop off working gear you no longer need so fellow campers can use it.

If we want wild places to keep restoring us, we have to start treating them like home. ✌️

Closing for winter: September 20th 2026

Quick note to say, the support for harpers first season has been incredible 🫶🏼

Huge thank you to everyone, who’s camped, popped by for a coffee, attended a feast, braved the ice baths, booked sauna sessions and supported us in any form - you make it all worth it.

Hibernation season is coming. But we won’t be resting.

We’re carrying out upgrades across the campsite over the colder months. Because the whole site is being worked on, harpers, the sauna, and the ice baths need to close while improvements are happening.

Your Croyde caffeine fix and recovery sessions will be back late spring / early summer 2027. Same spot, upgraded space. Campers, we think you’ll be very happy with what’s coming and we plan to bring you along for the ride.
