🇬🇧 Today, as we mark VE Day, we remember Ashton Estate’s connection to the Second World War and those who passed through its grounds during a time of uncertainty and resilience.
During the war, Ashton Wold House was loaned to the Red Cross and became a hospital for wounded servicemen, including Captain George Lane, who would later marry Dame Miriam Rothschild. The surrounding woodland also housed accommodation blocks for RAF personnel and the American Eighth Air Force stationed nearby at Polebrook Airfield.
A place shaped not only by beauty and nature, but by history, courage and compassion 🕊️
