One of the things we love about The Olive Rabbit is our garden.

There are lots of little places to sit and enjoy them, the verandas, our summer patio, or perhaps a quiet wander through our native bush garden.

And then there’s the spa, tucked away amongst the ferns and native trees. 🌿

We think our garden is meant to be enjoyed, not just looked at. So if you’re staying with us, find yourself a sunny spot, pour yourself a drink and relax either morning or evening. After all, you’re on holiday!

Guests arrive as strangers, but over breakfast, a Port & Chat, afternoon tea, or planning a great itinerary, we often discover we have much in common.

The Alpine Crossing is one of the reasons many of our guests find their way to The Olive Rabbit.
We’re just 20 minutes from the Ketetahi shuttle car park, so we know a thing or two about helping guests make the most of their day on the mountain.

D is for DISCOVERY 🔎

There’s so much more to discover around Tūrangi than you might imagine.

Hidden walks, beautiful riverside spots, local stories, great food, and plenty of places that don’t appear in the guidebooks.

Sometimes being a Smooth Operator means simply saying, “We’ll come and get you.”

Our guests were travelling on the Waimarino train when they discovered there was no Uber or bus to get them back to Tūrangi.

So Mary jumped in the car.

A 50-minute drive later, we collected them, and then detoured to the Tongariro Crossing entrance before bringing them home.

Why? Because to us, being a host is about more than providing a lovely room.

It’s knowing the area, thinking ahead and sometimes simply finding a way to help.

Perhaps that’s what being a Smooth Operator is really about. 😊

Accommodation category!

When we arrived in Tūrangi six years ago and began this unexpected journey as boutique B&B hosts, we never imagined where it would lead. Today, we're incredibly grateful to be recognised in the Stellar Awards, Taupo, alongside so many outstanding tourism businesses from across the wider Taupō region.

For us, The Olive Rabbit has always been about far more than providing a room. It's about sharing our love of this special place, the stories behind our name, the Tongariro River, the Alpine Crossing, local knowledge, conversations over breakfast and our daily Port & Chat, the spa, and those little touches that help guests discover hidden gems and create their own memorable experiences.

Seeing our guests return at the end of the day, excited to share their adventures, is what makes it all worthwhile.
