So…this is the 1st video we took yesterday. The black bears we experienced in the past 3+ years of being here have always been curious, but never aggressive. When there’s eye contact and awareness of each other, there’s almost an immediate understanding that we should both walk the other way. Plus, being around a mothers cub can easily cause misunderstandings.
This one was our 2nd bear sighting of 2023…and boy was he/she curious!
I moved in closer just to hope the bear would move backwards (as some do), but this one wanted to get in from the rain and eat some of that breakfast we were cooking!
Soon after these two videos, I went to the Celestial Suite and clapped my hands loudly to shoo this little one away.
We know we are in their back yard. But we don’t want to promote comfortability around our guests who are unfamiliar with their demeanor.
Best seen on the other side of our glass. The best way to see our neighbors during breakfast.

I’m a grown man talking to one of the cubs I’ve seen grown up as if he/she was one of my own pups.
I almost wanted to cuddle him/her…but then I remembered this might be that vandal who attacked our pond fountain with cuteness…

But, look at the awesome cuteness of Mama taking care of her cubs in Nature!
On a morning drive down to Chatsworth, I spotted the family of 3 on a small hill. Since Fort Mountain State Park was only a few hundred yards away, I turned around at the entrance and headed back up, setting the camera on record.
Luckily, not many cars on the road. This was helpful as my phone captured this Mother bear and her new cubs. Once I saw another vehicle, I felt it was important to flash my lights and stick out my hand to alert them of the next cub, possibly out of their view.
We were very lucky to start the day off like this!
