Cowee Valley, about 15 minutes from the resort, is home to some of the best gem mining in western North Carolina. It's an easy, low-effort outing that kids especially love.

Grab a bucket of mine dirt, sit down at the flume, and sift for rubies, sapphires, and other stones native to the area. Most mines have shaded seating and staff on hand to help you spot what you've found. Plan for an hour or two, it's the kind of activity that's easy to fit into any day without much planning.

Cherokee Ruby & Sapphire Mine offers an "unsalted" experience - they don't seed the dirt with gems. What you find, is authentic!

Pickin' on the Square returns this weekend with Tribe Called Praise bringing Christian rock to the Gazebo on the Square.

Open mic kicks things off at 6:30 PM, with the main act taking the stage around 7:30 PM. It's free, family-friendly, and a great way to spend a Saturday evening if you're staying with us this weekend. Grab dinner downtown beforehand, bring your lawn chairs, and enjoy a mountain evening under the stars.
