We have lots of great tips and suggestions based on our 36 years of hosting guests in Denali. We suggest a slow, quiet drive in Denali National Park after dinner when the Park is quiet and calm. You can drive 14.8 miles in "Front Country" to Savage River. You never know what you might see.

We went into Denali National Park a few nights ago. We saw several caribou from a distance and lots of moose close by. I love the way a large moose "tip-toes" on to the road and then steps, steps. The moose were comfortable being along the road and then in the road in front of us for many minutes. The Park was quiet with just us and few other cars. We basically had the Park and the moose to ourselves. Nice!

Visitors can drive 30 miles into the Park now. On May 20th and through the season, you will be able to drive only 14.8 miles until the Savage Bridge.

Last night's Northern Lights were jumping all over the sky, north and south and up and around. I took just a couple steps from the porch door to take these photos. Tonight is supposed to be good and Wednesday night is supposed to be wonderful for Northern Lights viewing. Soon we will have long, beautiful days, but the Northern Lights will not be visible with all the daylight. I always wonder when will be my last night to film Auroras until autumn.

This is the time of year we begin our search for local “kids” to join our hospitality team at the Denali Dome Home B&B, Keys to Denali car rentals, and our two vacation rentals: A Second Home in Denali and Your Home Along the Way in Denali.
Each year we try to employ at least one local student who might be hired for a first job experience. We enjoy communicating with the parents for a successful experience for both the student and for our businesses. We hire students on a part-time basis at the same starting rate we pay as our new experienced employees. Raises are possible.
We understand students might need work breaks in the summer for sports camps, family outings and church meetings. These absences are agreed upon, planned and scheduled at the beginning of the summer, so a firm, workable scheduled can be in place.
We will hire one or two “newbies” and teach them the important aspects of their first jobs for house cleaning, car detailing and gardening in the Denali hospitality industry.
We require references from teachers, coaches, church family members or neighbors. We know work experience outside their family may be very limited. We have hired many “kids” in the Healy area for 35 years. It’s another way we authentically give back to the Healy/Denali area. Our businesses have certainly benefitted from these first job workers. Many kids can walk or drive 4-wheelers to work at the Dome, due to our convenient location.
In 2025, starting rates are $14 per hour. After a period of probation, they earn $15 per hour. Raises can be earned and added to the bonus and are paid when they complete the summer’s contract.
