“Find out who you are and do it on purpose.” - Dolly Parton 🩋

Today we are honoring Dolly Parton and her profound impact on the world. As an avid advocate for child literacy, her Imagination Library has given over 300 million books to children throughout the U.S. and beyond- including our very own Marquette County.

Dolly will forever remind us to lead with kindness, and that reading is for all. â€ïžđŸ“š

From the Files: Dispatches from Peter White Public Library’s Local History Research Room. 📜 It’s a Boat! It’s a Plane! It’s a ...Lighthouse?

This August you might find yourself on the beach at Presque Isle Park. As you’re swimming you look to the north and can see a fuzzy shape on the horizon. It kind of looks like it could be freighter coming in to dock. But wait, didn’t you see the same ship there in July? So maybe it’s not a boat at all, but an island. You grab your phone and open Google Maps. Partridge and Middle Island are visible but you keep scrolling the lake and can’t find anything. You give up and move on, maybe it’s a really slow boat, or maybe you need to make an appointment with your eye doctor.

Wrong! That’s not a mirage you see, friend! It’s Granite Island! Around 12 miles north of Marquette, you’ll find the 2 œ acre island of granite rock, rising 60 feet above lake level and home to a privately-owned lighthouse.
