Bear Safety Tips: BE BEARWISE ON VACATION

* Enjoy bears from a distance and never approach them.
* Feeding bears (intentionally or unintentionally) trains them to approach homes and people for more food; you may be ticketed and fined.
* Bears may be defensive when people get too close.
* Secure your food, garbage, recyclables, coolers
* Clean and store your BBQ grill.
* Keep doors and windows closed.

If staying at a vacation rental, ask if they have bear-resistant trash containers. A bear-resistant rental will help prevent conflicts with bears while ensuring your family’s safety while on vacation.

We hope to see you at our annual May on the Mountain Bluegrass Festival on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at the Henagar City Park. Music will be performed on the back of the Cabin and begin at 10:00am. Entry is free with food and craft vendors on site for purchases. Our headliner this year is the Malpass Brothers. Be sure to bring a lawn chair!

Black bears are generally shy, elusive animals whose diets consist predominantly of vegetation. Unprovoked bear attacks are extremely rare.

According to bear expert Lynn Rogers, Ph.D. of the North American Bear Center, you are 45 times more likely to be killed by a dog, 120 times more likely to be killed by bees, and 60,000 times more likely to be murdered by another human being than to be killed by a black bear.
