There’s something magical about fall mornings on Penobscot Bay. 🍁🍂

The view from our Captain’s Suite today is simply breathtaking. The sun is shining, the bay is a beautiful shade of blue, and the autumn colors are beginning to paint the shoreline.

These are the kind of days that make you want to slow down, step outside with a warm cup of coffee, and just take it all in.

Fall in Maine really is something special, and we can’t think of a better place to experience it than right here at Captain Nickels Inn. ❤️

Sometimes hospitality comes full circle. ❤️

During their stay, Luci helped a guest fill his black Owala and casually mentioned that she had never seen one like it before. That was it—or so we thought.

Then a package arrived at the inn addressed to Luci. Inside was her very own black Owala and the sweetest handwritten note thanking her for taking such good care of them during breakfast.

Luci was genuinely touched. She told us she’ll cherish her new Owala, and the handwritten card is going straight into her memory box.

What made me smile most is that we had no idea this little interaction had even happened. We simply know Luci as we always see her—easygoing, kind, pleasant, and someone we are so grateful to have as part of our Captain Nickels Inn family.

Sometimes the smallest moments of kindness are the ones people remember most.

And to our wonderful guests who took the time to do this—thank you. You made a young girl feel incredibly special, and that means more than you probably realize. ❤️

It never gets old. 🦅🤍

Every time we spot this beautiful bald eagle around Captain Nickels Inn, whatever we’re doing stops. One of us sees him and immediately calls out, “The eagle!”—and we both have to go look.

Today, he was right outside our front door, perched in the tree enjoying his lunch. We’ve seen him many times since moving here, and somehow it still feels just as incredible every single time.

There are certain things that simply stop you in your tracks and remind you to take in the moment. This is definitely one of ours.

Some evenings at Captain Nickels Inn feel almost too perfect to be real. 🌙✨

🍂 Sometimes the best part of a Maine fall getaway is the drive.

From Captain Nickels Inn, some of our favorite places are reached by roads that are just as beautiful as the destination—winding along Penobscot Bay, through small coastal towns, past brilliant foliage, harbors, mountains and quintessential Maine scenery.

Spend the morning exploring Belfast. Take the scenic route to Camden. Make a day trip to Acadia. Then come back to Searsport, settle into an Adirondack chair overlooking the bay, and enjoy the quiet.

🎃 Sweet or savory… which are you choosing?

SWEET: Pumpkin waffles with cinnamon butter and maple sausage 🍁🧇

Apparently, I’ve been rushing the seasons. 😂

I called our heat pump service company today to talk about having the units cleaned and getting everything ready to switch over to heat. Somewhere in the conversation I said, “Well, it’s fall now…”

I was promptly corrected. Fall doesn’t officially arrive until September 22. We are, in fact, still in summer. ☀️

You could have fooled us. The pumpkins are out, fall flavors are making their way onto the breakfast table, and we’ve been happily settling into all things autumn at Captain Nickels Inn. 🎃🍂

But then you step outside on a day like today and realize he’s right.

The sun is warm, the sky is blue, Penobscot Bay is sparkling, and the air has that incredible crispness that comes at the very end of a Maine summer. It may honestly be one of the most beautiful summer days we’ve had.

So today, we’re not rushing it.

We’ll keep the pumpkins… but we’re soaking up every last bit of summer on the bay. 🤍
